Beer And Pretzels Game
A beer and pretzels game is any of a class of tabletop games that are light on rules and strategy, feature a high amount of randomness and a light theme. This is in direct contrast to Eurogames, which involve complex rules and emphasize strategy over randomness. The term was originally coined to describe relatively simple wargames that did not require extraordinary focus to play. The name was then adopted by gamers to mean casual, short and easy to play games in general. Examples of beer and pretzels games include ''Bohnanza'', '' Wizwar'' and ''Pit''. Characteristics Beer and pretzels games vary greatly in theme Theme or themes may refer to: * Theme (arts), the unifying subject or idea of the type of visual work * Theme (Byzantine district), an administrative district in the Byzantine Empire governed by a Strategos * Theme (computing), a custom graphical ... and gameplay, but have a set of common characteristics. Rules are simple and generally explainable in just a few min ...

Truth & Justice
''Truth & Justice'' is an "indie" tabletop role-playing game designed to emulate the superhero genre. It was created by Chad Underkoffler and published by Atomic Sock Monkey Press. The game allows players to take the role of superheroes and supervillains. System The game uses a modified version of the Prose Descriptive Qualities or PDQ system. ''PDQ'' offers three different levels of task resolution for any situation, in order to let players resolve encounters in as much or as little detail as possible. Compared to the standard PDQ system, ''T&J'' divides stats into normal scale and super scale. (This is similar to the "mega-damage" mechanic in '' Rifts'', or the "mega-dice" mechanic in ''Aberrant''.) Therefore, one character may have Good 2Strength (i.e. normal scale) and another has Good 2Super-strength (i.e. super scale). Normal scale must roll 2d6+2 for typical tasks. In contrast, super-strength will automatically succeed at normal scale tasks, but must make a 2d6+2 ro ...

Ninja Burger
is a parody website started in late 1999, purporting that a sect of noble ninja have taken to secretly delivering fast food meals, anywhere, anytime, within 30 minutes or less. Failure to deliver within the ascribed time limit results in seppuku. Some of Ninja Burger's rivals include Pirate Pizza, Otaku Bell, and Samurai Burger. The site riffs on many of the same points as Real Ultimate Power, another ninja parody website. Ninja Burger became well known after appearing on and becoming an affiliate of Fark, and soon after it was turned into a role-playing game. The site has also spawned a series of comic strips, several short films, a second role-playing game, a card game, a multimedia CD, and a book. On March 9, 2003, portions of a commercial for the website aired on the Food Network; the full version of this commercial is now available on YouTube. RPGs First Edition According to thNinja Burger website the first edition of the game was published by 9th Level Games in 200 ...

Swashbucklers Of The Seven Skies
''Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies'' is a role-playing game by Chad Underkoffler, published by Evil Hat Productions in 2009. Description ''Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies'' is a swashbuckling RPG set in a fantasy world of islands floating in the sky, which offers players the chance to heroically adventure across the heavens. ''Swashbucklers'' was an homage to the pulp swashbuckling genre, with a full chapter spent on the tropes of the genre. ''Swashbucklers'' included a fully original setting, of sky pirates in flying ships battling across a world where islands float in the sky. The game uses Chad Underkoffler's PDQ system, which shared some characteristics with ''Fate'' – such as its use of Fortes (or qualities), which could be freeform occupations, motivations, histories or organizations. Although ''Swashbucklers'' used PDQ, it was a new variant of the system that Underkoffler called PDQ#; for the first time, Underkoffler dramatically revamped his house mechanics, as PDQ# gave cha ...

The Zorcerer Of Zo
The Zantabulous Zorcerer of Zo is a fairy tale-themed independently published role-playing game created by Chad Underkoffler and published by Atomic Sock Monkey Press. The game allows players to take the role of fairy tale characters. System The game uses the ''Prose Descriptive Qualities'' (PDQ) system — also used in Atomic Sock Monkey Press's '' Dead Inside'', ''Truth & Justice'', and '' Monkey, Ninja, Pirate, Robot'', as well as the second edition of ''Ninja Burger'' — simplified to increase the flexibility and simplicity required for telling whimsical tales of magic and fairies. PDQ offers three different levels of task resolution for any situation, in order to let players resolve encounters in as much or as little detail as possible. PDQ also has three system elements of general interest: an abstracted system for damage or failure in conflicts, a method for generating future game events (or "Story Hooks") by taking damage, and a player-driven Hero Point system. Superhero
A superhero or superheroine is a stock character that typically possesses ''superpowers'', abilities beyond those of ordinary people, and fits the role of the hero, typically using his or her powers to help the world become a better place, or dedicating themselves to protecting the public and fighting crime. Superhero fiction is the genre of fiction that is centered on such characters, especially, since the 1930s, in American comic books (and later in Hollywood films, film serials, television and video games), as well as in Japanese media (including kamishibai, tokusatsu, manga, anime and video games). Superheroes come from a wide array of different backgrounds and origins. Some superheroes (for example, Batman and Iron Man) derive their status from advanced technology they create and use, while others (such as Superman and Spider-Man) possess non-human or superhuman biology or study and practice magic to achieve their abilities (such as Zatanna and Doctor Strange ...

Dead Inside (game)
''Dead Inside'' is a horror/fantasy role-playing game by Chad Underkoffler, published by Atomic Sock Monkey Press. Player characters are "Dead Inside", who have lost or were born without their souls and strive to regain or rebuild them. The game provides a variety of means by which souls may be lost, stolen, traded, regained or rebuilt. The game is considered unusual for its attempt to reverse the typical "Kill monsters and take their stuff" path to power found in most RPGs and replace it with the "Heal people and give them stuff" concept. Essentially, selfless and noble actions by the characters are rewarded with Soul Points, the measure of a character's soul integrity. These Soul Points can be used to fuel metaphysical powers or to improve a character's abilities, much as experience points are used in other RPGs. ''Dead Inside'' won the People's Choice Award in the 2004 Indie RPG Awards. Cosmology ''Dead Inside'' is chiefly divided into two realms – the stable, ...

Role-playing Game
A role-playing game (sometimes spelled roleplaying game, RPG) is a game in which players assume the roles of player character, characters in a fictional Setting (narrative), setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal role-playing game system, system of rules and guidelines. There are several forms of role-playing games. The original form, sometimes called the tabletop role-playing game (TRPG), is conducted through discussion, whereas in live action role-playing game, live action role-playing (LARP), players physically perform their characters' actions.(Tychsen et al. 2006:255) "LARPs can be viewed as forming a distinct category of RPG because of two unique features: (a) The players physically embody their characters, and (b) the game takes place in a physica ...

Origins Award
The Origins Awards are American awards for outstanding work in the game industry. They are presented by the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design at the Origins Game Fair on an annual basis for the previous year, so (for example) the 1979 awards were given at the 1980 Origins. The Origins Award is commonly referred to as a Calliope, as the statuette is in the likeness of the muse of the same name. Academy members frequently shorten this name to "Callie". History Originally, the ''Charles S. Roberts Awards'' and the Origins Awards were one and the same. Starting with the 1987 awards, the Charles S. Roberts were given separately, and they moved away from Origins entirely in 2000, leaving the Origins Awards as a completely separate system. In 1978, the awards also hosted the 1977 ''H. G. Wells awards'' for role-playing games and miniature wargaming. Categories The Origins Awards were originally presented at the Origins Game Fair in five categories: ''Best Professional Gam ...

Unknown Armies
''Unknown Armies'' is an occult-themed roleplaying game by John Scott Tynes and Greg Stolze, published by Atlas Games. The first edition was published in 1998, with the second and third editions being released in 2002 and 2017 respectively. The game is set in a postmodernist occult underground where characters wield Magic in fiction, magick by personal belief. System ''Unknown Armies'' uses a percentile dice system where checks are made by rolling two 10-sided dice, with one representing the "tens" and the other representing the "singles" digit (d100 for short). The game uses a 'roll-under' system, where the goal is to roll below the target number, rather than above as for games like ''Dungeons & Dragons''. Similarly, a roll of 1 is a critical success, while a roll of 00 (100) is a critical failure. Players can start off as ''mundanes'', ''Avatars'', or ''Adepts''. The benefit of the latter two is that one finds themselves in tune with some mystic force, and are most likely c ...
