Atle Jebsen
Atle Jebsen (10 November 1935 – 13 October 2009) was a Norwegian businessperson and ship-owner. Jebsen was born in Bergen in 1935 and was a great-grandson of Peter Jebsen. He was one of the most important persons in the Norwegian shipping during the turbulent 1960s and created the Jebsen Group during the 1970s. Atle Jebsen died in a car crash on 13 October 2009. Peter Jebsen
Peter Jebsen ( 6 May 1824 – 30 October 1892) was a Norway, Norwegian businessperson and politician. He was the founder of Dale of Norway. Background Jebsen was born at Broager in the Duchy of Schleswig. He was the son of Jens Jebsen (1778-1850) and Maren Hansen (1790-1835). Jebsen grew up in the village of Skelde on the Broager Peninsula in Sønderjylland, Denmark. Career In 1839, he began his career working at his brother's manufacturing and trade firm in Sønderborg and subsequently for a brother-in-law in the cloth industry at Hamburg. He moved to Bergen in 1843, bought a river in Ytre Arna for 200 Norwegian speciedaler, specidaler borrowed money and started manufacturing cloth. As one of the first manufactures in the country, profits gained were high due to protectionism against import of wool. A ship-owner is the owner of a merchant vessel (commercial ship) and is involved in the shipping industry. In the commercial sense of the term, a shipowner is someone who equips and exploits a ship, usually for delivering cargo at a certain freight rate, either as a per freight rate (given price for the transport of a certain cargo between two given ports) or based on hire (a rate per day). Shipowners typically hire a licensed crew and captain rather than take charge of the vessel in person. Usually the shipowner is organized through a company, but also people and investment funds can be ship owners. Bergen
Bergen (), historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. , its population is roughly 285,900. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway.
