Athinaikos H.C.
Athinaikos H.C. is a Greek handball club based in Vyronas, in the Athens agglomeration. The club is the handball section of Greek multisport club of Athinaikos. It is one of the most successful Greek handball club with titles both Men's and Women's team. History Athinaikos is one of the first clubs competed in the championship that was founded in the late of 1970s. Athinaikos won one Men's Championship and three Men's cups, two of them was consecutive, as well as two women's championships and three women's cups. Men's team of Athinaikos played three times in EHF Competitions and women's team played four times in Women's EHF Competitions. Despite the successful presence, Athinaikos was withdrawn from championship in 2006 due to financial problems. The club remained inactive for 9 years and returned in 2015-16 season playing in Beta Ethniki championship (3rd tier). Vyronas
Vyronas ( el, Βύρωνας) is a suburban town and a municipality in the southeastern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. The town is named after George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, the famous English poet and writer, who is a national hero of Greece. Formerly part of the municipality of Athens, Vyronas was created as a community in 1933, and became a municipality in 1934. The municipality has an area of 9.204 km2. Vyronas is an inner suburb of Athens, located about 3 km southeast of Athens city centre. Towards the southeast the municipality extends to the forested Hymettus mountain. Greek Men's Handball Championship
The Greek Men's Handball Championship, or Handball Premier, is the most important competition of Greek handball. The competition which is organised by Hellenic Handball Federation (Greek: ΟΧΕ) started in 1979–80 season. The most successful team is Ionikos Nea Filadelfeia who has won ten titles. The last title was won by Olympiacos. Evangelos Kalfarentzos, fitness director of the Panhellenic Gymnastics Association of Athens (Panellinios), physical education teacher and author, recognized as rapporteur of the sport in Greece. Competition Format The season begins with a tournament between the twelve teams. The first six teams qualify for a play-off round, while the last three plays play-out. The Greek Handball Cup is the second more important competition of Greek handball. The Cup is organised by the Hellenic Handball Federation (Greek: ΟΧΕ). The first Cup took place in 1982–83 season. Founded on 17 November 1991, it is made of 50 member federations and two associated federations (England and Scotland), and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team.
