Nybrogatan
Nybrogatan is a street in the borough of Östermalm in central Stockholm, Sweden. Approximately one kilometre in length, it stretches north from Nybroplan to Valhallavägen. Before 1864, the northern part of Nybrogatan above Östermalmstorg was called ''Seved Bååtsgatan'' after a local official. The southern part was named Nybrogatan after a bridge that was constructed over Nybroviken in the 17th century. Later on the street in its entirety took on this name, while the bridge itself became redundant when Nybroviken was filled up in the 19th century. While Nybrogatan remains a mostly residential street, it also hosts offices, stores, cafés and restaurants and in recent years have seen an increase in the number of commercial establishments. Östermalm
Östermalm (; "Eastern city-borough") is a 2.56 km2 large district in central Stockholm, Sweden. With 71,802 inhabitants, it is one of the most populous districts in Stockholm. It is an extremely expensive area, having the highest housing prices in Sweden. History During the reign of the ruler of all of Scandinavia, king Eric of Pomerania in the early 15th century, a royal cowshed/barn was erected on the lands of the village Vädla. Since the town of Stockholm had grown and started to encroach on the borders of that village, there were many complaints about animals causing damage in the town. In the 17th century, the inhabitants of Stockholm were allowed to keep their cattle there. In 1639, parts of the allocated land for the cowshed/barn were put up for development. Astoria Cinemas was a cinema chain that was started by people from Triangelfilm, Atlantic Film and S/S Falden which in April 2005 bought Sandrew Metronome's cinemas in Sweden. Sandrew's cinemas in Sweden has been for sale since August 2004 because their owner (Schibsted) was displeased with declining revenues. A bid from SF Bio in December 2004 was stopped by the Swedish Competition Authority.
