Astafjorden
Astafjorden is a fjord (more accurately, a strait) in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Salangen, Gratangen, Ibestad, and Tjeldsund. The long fjord flows from the Salangen fjord in the east to the Vågsfjorden in the west. The wide fjord separates the islands of Andørja and Rolla from the mainland. There are several small fjords that branch off this fjord including: Lavangen, Gratangen, Grovfjorden, and Salangen. Name The fjord (and the former municipality of Astafjord) were named after the old ''Ånstad'' farm (Old Norse: ''Arnastaðafjǫrðr''). The first element of the old name comes from the male name ''Arna'' or "Arne", the second element ''staða'' means "home" or "farm", and the last element ''fjǫrðr'' is identical with the word for "fjord". Astafjord
Astafjord is a former municipality in the old Troms county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1926 until its dissolution in 1964. It was located in the eastern part of the present-day municipality of Tjeldsund in Troms og Finnmark county. The municipality surrounded the Grovfjorden. The administrative center of the former municipality was the village of Grov where Astafjord Church is located. The Astafjorden ( strait) flowed along the northern part of the municipality and it was the namesake for the municipality. Gratangen ( sme, Rivttága suohkan) is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Central Hålogaland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Årstein. The municipality is the 261st largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Ibestad ( sme, Ivvárstádik) is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Central Hålogaland. Lavangen (fjord)
or is a fjord in the municipalities of Lavangen and Salangen in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The majority of the fjord is in Lavangen municipality (hence the name of the municipality). The long fjord flows to the northwest and empties into the larger Astafjorden. The deepest point in the fjord reaches about below sea level. Gratangen (fjord)
or is a fjord in Gratangen Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The long fjord is an arm off of the main Astafjorden. The municipality of Gratangen surrounds the fjord and is named after the fjord. The fjord is about wide, except for a very narrow wide point in the middle of the fjord where the village of Årstein is located. At that point, the Årstein Bridge on Norwegian County Road 825 crosses the fjord. The villages of Fjordbotn and Elvenes, Troms, Elvenes are located at the innermost part of the fjord. Årstein, Åkeneset, and Foldvik are located along the central part of the fjord. Myrlandshaugen and Hilleshamn are located at the mouth of the fjord. Vågsfjorden, Troms
Vågsfjorden is a fjord in the southern part of Troms og Finnmark county in Norway. The fjord is located between Norway's two largest islands, Hinnøya to the south and Senja to the north. The fjord connects to the Andfjorden and the Tranøyfjorden to the north, and to the Astafjorden and Tjeldsundet to the south. The smaller islands of Grytøya and Sandsøya lie on the western side of the fjord and the islands of Andørja and Rolla lie along the eastern side of the fjord. Salangen is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Sjøvegan, where most of the people in the municipality live. Other villages include Elvenes, Laberg, and Seljeskog. The municipality is situated along the Sagfjorden in south central Troms county.
