Asta Olivia Nordenhof
Asta Olivia Nordenhof (born 1988) is a Danish poet and novelist. She studied at the Danish Academy of Creative Writing, where she were teaching 2015–2022. Nordenhof published her debut novel ''Et ansigt til Emily'' (''A Face for Emily'') in 2011, a patchwork- novel about the love between two women which won the Munch-Christensen’s Debutant Prize. In 2013, she published her critically acclaimed poetry collection ''Det nemme og det ensomme'' (''The Easiness and the Loneliness'') which won Montanas Literary Award that same year. ''Det nemme og det ensomme'' has been translated to Norwegian, Swedish (published by Modernista) and English (published by Open Letter Books). In 2020, she published her novel ''Penge på lommen'' (''Money to Burn''), the first part in septology entitled Scandinavian Star. Open Letter Books is an American publishing house based at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. It was founded in 2008 by Chad W. Post, the Editor-in-Chief of Dalkey Archive Press. It specializes in translation, a less-populated field in American publishing. Publications Open Letter is a literary press that publishes ten books annually—mostly novels and short stories, and one book of poetry. The press also runs Three Percent, an extensive online resource for literature in translation, which presents the yearly Best Translated Book Award. The press has received funding perennially from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as from the University of Rochester, New York State Council on the Arts, Amazon.com, and a variety of international foundations and individuals. MS Scandinavian Star
MS ''Scandinavian Star'', originally named MS ''Massalia'', was a car and passenger ferry built in France in 1971. The ship was set on fire on April 7, 1990, killing 159 people. The official investigation determined the fire had been caused by a convicted arsonist who died in the blaze.Solheim, T.; Lorentsen, M.; Sundnes, P.K.; Bang, G. & Bremnes, L. The European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL), established in 2009, is a European Union literary award. Its aim is to recognise outstanding new literary talents from all over Europe, to promote the circulation and translation of literature amongst European countries, and to highlight the continent's creativity and diversity. Nordic Council Literature Prize
The Nordic Council Literature Prize is awarded for a work of literature written in one of the languages of the Nordic countries, that meets "high literary and artistic standards". Established in 1962, the prize is awarded every year, and is worth 350,000 Danish kroner (2008). Eligible works are typically novels, plays, collections of poetry, short stories or essays, or other works that were published for the first time during the last four years, or in the case of works written in Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish, within the last two years. The prize is one of the most prestigious awards that Nordic authors can win. The winner is chosen by an adjudication committee appointed by the Nordic Council. The committee consists of ten members, two each from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
