Open Letter Books
Open Letter Books is an American publishing house based at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. It was founded in 2008 by Chad W. Post, the Editor-in-Chief of Dalkey Archive Press. It specializes in translation, a less-populated field in American publishing. Publications Open Letter is a literary press that publishes ten books annually—mostly novels and short stories, and one book of poetry. The press also runs Three Percent, an extensive online resource for literature in translation, which presents the yearly Best Translated Book Award. The press has received funding perennially from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as from the University of Rochester, New York State Council on the Arts, Amazon.com, and a variety of international foundations and individuals. Can Xue
Deng Xiaohua (; born May 30, 1953), better known by her pen name Can Xue (), is a Chinese avant-garde fiction writer and literary critic. Her family was severely persecuted following her father being labeled a rightist in the Anti-Rightist Campaign of 1957. Her writing, which consists mostly of short fiction, breaks with the realism of earlier modern Chinese writers. She has also written novels, novellas, and literary criticisms of the work of Dante, Jorge Luis Borges, and Franz Kafka. Bragi Ólafsson (born 11 August 1962 in Reykjavík, Iceland) is an Icelandic musician and a writer. Internationally he is best known for his work as a bassist in The Sugarcubes, the avant-garde pop band from Iceland that brought fame to Björk, who went on to solo success with her unique brand of diverse musical genres. Kristín Ómarsdóttir (born 1962) is an List of Icelandic authors, Icelandic author, poet and playwright. Biography Kristín Ómarsdóttir was born in Reykjavík; she spent her first years in Copenhagen and lived for most of her childhood in Hafnarfjörður. Bae Suah (born 1965) is a South Korean author and translator. Life Bae graduated from Ewha Womans University with a degree in chemistry. At the time of her debut in 1993, she was a government employee working behind the embarkation/disembarkation desk at Gimpo Airport in Incheon. Without formal instruction or guidance from a literary mentor, Bae wrote stories as a hobby. But it wasn't long before she left her stultifying job to become one of the most daringly unconventional writers to grace the Korean literary establishment in modern years. Rodrigo Fresán (born 1963 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a fiction writer and journalist. Since 1999, Fresán has lived and worked in Barcelona, Spain. Marguerite Germaine Marie Donnadieu (, 4 April 1914 – 3 March 1996), known as Marguerite Duras (), was a French novelist, playwright, screenwriter, essayist, and experimental filmmaker. Her script for the film ''Hiroshima mon amour'' (1959) earned her a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
