Association Of Ambulance Chief Executives
The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives is a non-statutory organisation that facilitates the coordination of programmes of work and policies across National Health Service ambulance services trusts in England. It is analogous to the National Police Chiefs' Council for police forces in the United Kingdom. It advocates closer integration between 999 and 111 services as this allows excess capacity to be utilised to respond to less urgent 999 calls. In September 2022 the association released figures showing patient handover data. 203,000 patients experienced handover delays exceeding 15 minutes, with 146,000 hours lost to 15 minute+ handover delays, the third highest on record. Ambulance Services Trust
An ambulance services trust or ambulance trust is an organisation which provide ambulance services within the National Health Services of England and Wales. There are currently 11 ambulance services trusts in England and Wales. Ambulance services in Scotland are run by the Scottish Ambulance Service and in Northern Ireland by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Health and Social Care Trust. NHS 111
111 is a free-to-call single non-emergency number medical helpline operating in England, Scotland and parts of Wales. The 111 phone service has replaced the various non-geographic 0845 rate numbers and is part of each country's National Health Service: in England the service is known as NHS 111; in Scotland, NHS 24; and in Wales, NHS 111 Wales. The transition from NHS Direct (0845 4647) to NHS 111 in England was completed during February 2014 with NHS 24 Scotland (08454 24 24 24) following during April 2014. States Of Jersey Ambulance Service
The States of Jersey Ambulance Service (SJAS) is managed by the Justice and Home Affairs department. In 2022 in order to deal with peaks in demand and unexpected events it changed the way emergency calls were prioritised. Staff shortages were attributed to the cost of living on the island and it was suggested that there could be accommodation provided for the ambulance staff. Calls will be prioritised similarly to practice in NHS ambulance services. It launched a community first responders scheme in 2022. Performance The service was said to be a good organisation with "passionate and caring staff who provide a good quality of care to patients" when reviewed in 2022 but levels of staff were said to be inadequate in terms of meeting current demands.
