Assem Ahmed Marei (Arabic: عاصم مرعي) is an Egyptian basketball player for Changwon LG Sakers of the Korean Basketball League. Marei first played for Egyptian side Zamalek SC, before being recognized by other leagues at the FIBA U-19 world Championship. Assem averaged 3rd most points per game, most steals per game, and 2nd most rebounds in the tournament right after Jonas Valančiūnas. Marei played for NCAA Division 2 side Minnesota State University Mavericks for a scholarship at the Minnesota State University. Early life Marei was born on June 16, 1992 from parents who were both former basketball players at Zamalek SC. His father, Ahmed Marei, who played pivot as well, competed for the Egyptian Olympic team at the Los Angeles Games in 1984 and averaged 2.3 point per game. The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) (English language: ''Federal Basketball League''), for sponsorship reasons named easyCredit BBL, is the highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany. The league comprises 18 teams. A BBL season is split into a league stage and a playoff stage. At the end of the league stage, the top eight teams qualify for the playoff stage, and the teams positioned in the 17th and 18th places are relegated to a lower-tier league. The playoffs are played in a "Best of five" format. The winning team of the final round are crowned the German Champions of that season. Ahmed Mohamed Marei (Arabic: أحمد مرعي; born 5 January 1959) is an Egyptian professional basketball coach and former player, currently serving as the head coach for Zamalek SC of the Egyptian Basketball Super League (EBSL). Previously he has also been the head coach of Al Ittihad Alexandria and the Egyptian national team. Playing career He played for Egypt’s national team in 1984 when he was a part of its Olympic Team. Coaching career Marei coached Al Ittihad Alexandria from 2019 to 2022 and helped the team win the Super League in 2020 and reach the finals in the next two seasons. The Minnesota State Mavericks are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Minnesota State University, Mankato. The school's athletic program includes 21 varsity sports teams. More than 600 students participate each year in athletics for the university. Most of the university's athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Jonas Valančiūnas ( ; ; born 6 May 1992) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected by the Toronto Raptors with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. At the 2019 trade deadline, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. The 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship (Latvian: 2011. gada FIBA pasaules čempionāts līdz 19 gadu vecumam) was the 10th edition of the FIBA U19 World Championship, the biennial international men's youth basketball championship contested by the U19 national teams of the member associations of FIBA. The 2015–16 Triobet Baltic Basketball League was the 12th season of the Baltic Basketball League and the first under the title sponsorship of Triobet. Overview This season’s competition included 6 teams from Estonia, 5 teams from Latvia and Lithuania and one team from Kazakhstan, which played all its games away.
