Nehru Stadium, Guwahati
Nehru Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was built in 1962 and holds the capacity of 15,000 spectators. Radha Govinda Baruah supervised, constructed and named it as ''Nehru Stadium''. The stadium is operated by the Board of Sports of Assam, Government of Assam. It is used both for football and cricket matches. It has hosted 13 One Day Internationals matches and many matches of domestic cricket tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. In football, it regularly hosts prestigious Bordoloi Trophy and GSA Super Division Football League. Assam Football Association
The Assam Football Association (AFA) is one of the 37 Indian State Football Associations that are affiliated to the All India Football Federation. It governs association football in the state of Assam, India and also administers the Assam men's and women's football teams. Naba Kumar Doley is in the charge of current president and Dr. Sangrang Brahma is the general secretary of Assam FA. History Assam Football Association was formed in 1946, but the game of football has been played since before independence of India. Santosh Trophy
The Santosh Trophy, officially known as Hero Senior Men's National Football Championship due to sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp, is a state-level football competition contested by the state associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the sport's governing body in India. Before the starting of the first national club league, the National Football League in 1996, the Santosh Trophy was considered the top domestic honour in India. Many players who have represented India internationally, played and gained honour while playing in the Santosh Trophy. The tournament is held every year with 37 teams, who are divided into five zones, must play in the qualifying round and progress into the tournament proper. 2022–23 Santosh Trophy
The 2022–23 Santosh Trophy is the 76th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the premier competition in India for senior men's football teams representing their respective states/union territories and government institutions. Contrary to the recent seasons, this edition onwards, the AIFF adopted a new format for the tournament that saw the removal of the qualification stage, thereby allowing all the state teams to participate in the group stage. This move taken in a way for promoting the sport in every region of the country. On 6 October 2022, the AIFF signed a MoU with the SAFF, which included an agreement to host the semi-finals, the 3rd place decider & the final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 2022–23 Santosh Trophy group stage was contested by a total of 36 teams from 23 December 2022 to 31 January 2023, to decide the 10 places in the final round of the tournament. Milan Basumatary (born 2 September 1997) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder and striker for Shillong Lajong in the I-League. Career Early career Born in Kokrajhar, Assam, Basumatary started playing football in his village for the Kokrajhar Football Academy as part of the Sports Authority of India. Football has been a sport at the National Games of India since the 1985 edition, while the Women's football tournament was introduced in the 1999 edition. The 1985 National Games was the first modern National Games to be held since its inception in 1924 and was also the first to be held on the lines of the Olympics. Punjab and West Bengal are currently the most successful states in the Men's event with 3 Gold Medals each while Manipur is the most successful in Women's event with 5 Gold Medals. 2007 National Games Of India
The 2007 National Games, also known as the ''33rd National Games of India'' and informally as Assam 2007 was the 33rd edition of the National Games of India, held from 9 February 2007 to 18 February 2007 in Guwahati, Assam, India. Indian National Congress president Sonia Gandhi declared the 33rd National Games open amid clamorous cheering from the 30,000 strong crowd at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium. Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy
The Sub Junior National Football Championship, also known as Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy, is an Indian football tournament for players under 16 years of age. The competition is held every year between the under-16 teams representing states of India. The tournament was started in 1977 for boys under the age 15 years. The tournament was constituted at the Darjeeling meeting of the AIFF on 12 June 1976. AIFF donated the trophy in the memory of former President of Karnataka State Football Association, Mir Iqbal Hussain. From the 2009–10 season onwards, the championship has been sponsored by Coca-Cola and was rechristened as the Coca-Cola MIHT for a period of three years.
