Asphalt Modified Racing
Modified stock car racing, also known as modified racing and modified, is a type of auto racing that involves purpose-built cars simultaneously racing against each other on oval tracks. First established in the United States after World War II, this type of racing was early-on characterized by its participants' modification of passenger cars in pursuit of higher speeds, hence the name. There are many sanctioning bodies for modifieds, each specifying different body styles and engine sizes. History A typical early “modified stock car” was, as it name implies, generally a stock automobile, with the glass removed, a roll cage installed, and a souped-up motor. NASCAR began by organizing the modifieds, and ran its first race in Daytona Beach in February 1948 at the beach road course. Jimmy Spencer (racing Driver)
James Peter Spencer (born February 15, 1957) is an American former racing driver, team owner, and television commentator. He is best known for competing in NASCAR. He hosted the NASCAR-inspired talk show, ''What’s the Deal?'', on Speed, and was co-host, with John Roberts and Kenny Wallace, of Speed's pre-race and post-race NASCAR shows ''NASCAR RaceDay'' and ''NASCAR Victory Lane''. Before retiring, Spencer had a segment on Speed's ''NASCAR Race Hub'' offering commentary and answering viewer questions (on Tuesdays and Thursdays). During his days racing modifieds, he was nicknamed "Mr. Excitement" for his aggressive racing style. Tim McCreadie (born April 12, 1974) is an American Dirt Late Model racing driver. He is the 2021 and 2022 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champion. In 2007 he ran a partial schedule in NASCAR West Series, ARCA RE/MAX Series, NASCAR Busch Series, and World of Outlaws Late Model Series. Racing career As a youth, McCreadie raced go karts in the Thousand Island region of New York, and advanced to small block modifieds. United Midwestern Promoters
United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) is a short track motor racing sanctioning body in the United States that sanctions short track racing on dirt race tracks from 1/5 mile (0.3 km) in length to in length. UMP currently sanctions eight different racing divisions on over 100 tracks in 19 states and one province in Canada. UMP was created in 1984 by Bob Memmer. American Speed Association
The American Speed Association (ASA) is a sanctioning body of motorsports in the United States formed in 1968. The Association was based in Pendleton, Indiana, Pendleton, Indiana, and later in Daytona Beach, Florida.
