Aspalathus Millefolia
''Aspalathus millefolia'' is a species of ''Aspalathus'' shrub, which occurs in the Overberg region of the Western Cape Province, South Africa. Description A low branching shrub, with many tiny (1-3 x 0,2mm), thin, linear, obtuse-tipped, slightly incurved leaves. The leaves are green and sometimes sparsely hairy. The bracts are not stalked and the keels are short and wide. It somewhat resembles its relative ''Aspalathus ciliaris''. Distribution and habitat This species is indigenous to the Overberg region, in the southern Western Cape Province, South Africa. Its habitat is typically rocky clay-rich soils of shale and alluvial terraces, where it grows in a mixture of Fynbos and Renosterveld vegetation. Rolf Martin Theodor Dahlgren
Rolf Martin Theodor Dahlgren (7 July 1932 – 14 February 1987) was a Swedish-Danish botanist and professor at the University of Copenhagen from 1973 to his death. Life Dahlgren was born in Örebro on 7 July 1932 to apothecary Rudolf Dahlgren and wife Greta née Dahlstrand. He took his MSc degree in Biology in (1955) and PhD degree in Botany in (1963) at Lund University. He was killed in a car crash in Scania, Sweden on 14 February 1987. Career He continued working on South African plants during expeditions in 1956-57 and 1965–66, while affiliated with the ''Botanical Museum'' in Lund as ''docent''. In 1973, he became professor of botany at the University of Copenhagen. Here, he developed his system of Angiosperm classification, based on many more characters simultaneously than previous systems, most notably many chemical plant traits (see also chemotaxonomy). Bredasdorp
Bredasdorp is a town in the Southern Overberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa, and the main economic and service hub of that region. It lies on the northern edge of the Agulhas Plain, about south-east of Cape Town and north of Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa. Tourist attractions of Bredasdorp include the Heuningberg Nature Reserve, many historical churches, and art galleries and craft shops. Crotalarieae
Crotalarieae is a tribe of flowering plants belonging to the family Fabaceae. It includes rooibos ''(Aspalathus linearis)'', harvested for sale as a tisane. Description The Crotalarieae arose 31.2 ± 3.4 million years ago (in the Oligocene). The members of this tribe consistently form a monophyletic clade in molecular phylogenetic analyses. The tribe does not currently have a node-based definition and no morphological synapomorphies have been identified. Several genera in the tribe produce quinolizidine alkaloids or macrocyclic pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Riversdale, Western Cape
Riversdale ( af, Riversdal) is a town located on the N2 (South Africa), N2 highway between Cape Town and George, Western Cape, George on the Agulhas Coastal Plain of the southern Western Cape province of South Africa. Heidelberg is a town in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is located near South Africa's south coast, on the N2 highway, 274 km east of Cape Town (about halfway between Cape Town and Knysna). Swellendam
Swellendam is the fifth oldest town in South Africa (after Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Simon's Town, and Paarl), a town with 17,537 inhabitants situated in the Western Cape province. Malgas
Malgas (or Malagas) is a settlement on the right (southwest) bank of the Breede River in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. It is situated 25 kilometres north-west of the Breede River mouth at Witsand, and 30 kilometres south-east of Swellendam. "Malgas" is the Afrikaans for gannet. Renosterveld
Renosterveld is a term used for one of the major plant communities and vegetation types of the Cape Floristic Region (Cape Floral Kingdom) which is located in southwestern and southeastern South Africa, in southernmost Africa. It is an ecoregion of the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome. Etymology Renosterveld directly translated in the Afrikaans language means "rhinoceros-field", a possible reference to the high number of rhinoceroses seen by the Afrikaner settlers at the time. ''Aspalathus'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae. The yellow flowers and spiny habit of some species have suggested a resemblance to ''Ulex europaeus'', the thorny " English gorse" Accordingly, "Cape Gorse" has been proposed as a common name although the resemblance is largely superficial; for instance, gorse is thorny, whereas ''Aspalathus'' species are variously spiny or unarmed. Fynbos
Fynbos (; meaning fine plants) is a small belt of natural shrubland or heathland vegetation located in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa. This area is predominantly coastal and mountainous, with a Mediterranean climate and rainy winters. The fynbos ecoregion is within the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome. Fluvial Terrace
Fluvial terraces are elongated terraces that flank the sides of floodplains and fluvial valleys all over the world.
