Asociación Deportiva San Carlos is a Costa Rican football team based in Ciudad Quesada, the capital of San Carlos, Alajuela. They currently play in the Costa Rican First Division. Their home stadium is Estadio Carlos Ugalde Álvarez. History The club was founded on 9 May 1965, after local clubs ''El Refugio'' and ''El Maravilla'' merged to become ''Selección de San Carlos'' and winning promotion to the Primera División in 1965. They were relegated in 1971 and stayed in the Second División until returning at the top level in 1978. In 2004 they were relegated again after 25 years in the Primera, staying in the second tier for another two years. In May 2006 they beat Cartagena in a promotion playoff final and from 2006 through 2013 they were in the Primera before descending once more in 2013. Christian Alonso Martínez Mena (born 19 April 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liga FPD club San Carlos. Born in Costa Rica and of Salvadoran descent, Martínez represented the Costa Rica national team in two friendlies, before switching to represent the El Salvador national team. Álvaro Alberto Saborío Chacón (; born 25 March 1982) is a Costa Rican professional footballer, who plays as a forward and captains Costa Rican club San Carlos from the Primera División de Costa Rica. Costa Rican Second Division also known as Liga Motorola for sponsorship reasons, is a professional league formed on 1921 for association football clubs in Costa Rica. It is the country's second-tier/division football competition, which is contested by 18 clubs and operates by a system of promotion and relegation. 2018–19 Liga FPD
The 2018–19 Liga FPD season, also known as Campeonato Banco Popular for sponsorship reasons, is the 98th since its establishment. The tournament is the second since the 2006–07 season to use the Apertura and Clausura names to their short tournaments, marking a departure from the Invierno and Verano tournaments. The Voit Lummo is the official match ball of the tournament. Deportivo Saprissa are the defending champions, after defeating Herediano in the Clausura 2018 tournament. Teams and Structure Changes A total of 12 teams will contest the league, including 11 sides from the 2017–18 season, one team promoted from the Liga de Ascenso. LD Alajuelense
Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA, ), commonly known as Alajuelense and nicknamed La Liga (), is a Costa Rican multisport club based in the borough of El Llano, Alajuela, Alajuela province. Although they compete in a number of different sports, Alajuelense is mostly known for its association football team. It plays in the Primera División de Costa Rica, the top tier of the Costa Rican football league system. Alajuelense is one of two clubs to have never been relegated, along with Herediano. Jonathan André McDonald Porras (born October 28, 1987 in San Jose) is a Costa Rican professional footballer for Liga FPD club Herediano. Career Club McDonald made his professional debut as a 16-year-old with AD Carmelita, making three appearances in his first season. In 2006, he moved to top Costa Rican side CS Herediano. Quesada is a district of the San Carlos canton, in the Alajuela province of Costa Rica. It is the head city of the canton of San Carlos.
