Ask, Buskerud
Ask is a village in Ringerike municipality, Buskerud, Norway. Ash is located along Norwegian national road Rv35 approx. 6 km southwest of the municipality Hønefoss. The village once had a railway station on the Randsfjord Line. Ask is most known for Ask Chapel and for ''Ask gods'', a Manor house owned by the Løvenskiold family. Ask gods Ask Farm (''Gården Ask'' or ''Ask gods'') is located at the northwest end of Tyrifjorden. The name comes from the Norwegian word for European ash. The farm, which is one of the oldest in Ringerike, gave name to the village of Ask. Odelsting President and District Jens Jensen Gram bought the farm at auction in 1816. The manor house was designed by the son of Jens Jensen Gram, Major General Johan Georg Boll Gram (1809–1873) and was completed in 1874 by his widow, Fredrikke Stabell Gram (1811-1896). Ringerike (municipality)
Ringerike is a municipality in the traditional and electoral district Buskerud in Viken county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Ringerike. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Hønefoss. The municipality of Ringerike was created on 1 January 1964 after the merger of the town of Hønefoss and the rural municipalities of Hole, Norderhov, Tyristrand, and Ã…dal. However, the area of Hole was removed from the municipality of Ringerike on 1 January 1977 to become a separate municipality once again. The historic area of Ringerike included not just the modern municipality of Ringerike but also Hole and Krødsherad, Modum and Sigdal. Jens Jensen Gram
Jens Jensen Gram (12 February 1779 – 2 November 1824) was a Norwegian jurist and politician. He was born in Copenhagen as the son of Jens Gram. He studied at the University of Copenhagen from 1798, and graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1804. He worked in the Danish Chancellery from 1806 until 1808, when he was appointed as acting district stipendiary magistrate of Ringerike and Hallingdal. He got the position on a permanent basis in 1815. He lived in Nes from 1808, and at Ask from 1816. He was a deputy representative to Norwegian Constituent Assembly in 1814, and was elected to the Norwegian Parliament in 1818 and 1821, representing the constituency of Buskeruds Amt. He served as President of the Odelsting. Due to a stroke in late 1821, he was not re-elected in 1823. Josef Hilmar Jørgensen
Josef Hilmar Jørgensen (March 28, 1892 – November 2, 1961) was a Norwegian organ builder. Jørgensen was the owner of the J. H. Jørgensen organ company. The company was originally called Olsen & Jørgensen from 1892 to 1925Frisk, Anna, Sverker Jullander, & Andrew McCrea. 2003. ''The Nordic-Baltic Organ Book: History and Culture''. Øvre Eiker is a municipality in the traditional and electoral district Buskerud in Viken county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Eiker. Hokksund
Hokksund is a town in the municipality of Øvre Eiker in the county of Viken, Norway. History Hokksund is the administrative centre, and largest town in Øvre Eiker, with a population of around 8,000. Hokksund is located 18 km west of Drammen. The river Drammenselva flows through the town, 500m from the centre. Hokksund has developed on both sides of the river. Hokksund is located in a rich agricultural district. Forestry has traditionally been the principal industry, but engineering, especially electrical as well as the cement industry, have become important within the past century. There are three hotels in Hokksund and a campsite there, which holds up to 240 caravans. Transportation Hokksund Station ('' Hokksund stasjon'') is on the Sørlandet Line. Tyrifjorden
Tyrifjorden (Lake Tyri) is a lake in Norway. It lies northwest of Oslo and is the nation's fifth largest lake with an area of 139 km2. It has a volume of 13 km3, is 295 meters deep at its deepest, and lies 63 meters above sea level. The lake's primary source is the Begna river, which discharges into Tyrifjorden at Hønefoss where the river forms the waterfall of Hønefossen. Carl Axel Løvenskiold (13 January 1912 – 28 September 1980) was a Norwegian landowner and painter. Personal life He was born in Ullern as a son of landowner Carl Løvenskiold (1874–1949) and Elise Bruun (1879–1950). He was a grandson of Lord Chamberlain Herman Severin Løvenskiold, great-grandson of Otto Joachim Løvenskiold, great-great-grandson of Severin Løvenskiold, grandnephew of Prime Minister Carl Otto Løvenskiold and a second cousin of Carl Otto Løvenskiold. Jørgen Moe
Jørgen Engebretsen Moe (22 April 1813–27 March 1882) was a Norwegian folklorist, bishop, poet, and author. He is best known for the ''Norske Folkeeventyr'', a collection of Norwegian folk tales which he edited in collaboration with Peter Christen Asbjørnsen. He also served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Kristianssand from 1874 until his death in 1882. Christian Skredsvig
Christian Skredsvig (12 March 1854 – 19 January 1924) was a Norwegian painter and writer. He employed an artistic style reflecting naturalism. He is especially well known for his picturesque and lyrical depictions of the landscape. Biography Christian Erichsen Skredsvig was born and grew up on the Skredsvig farm in the parish of Modum in Buskerud, Norway. When he was 15 years old he became a pupil at the drawing and paint school of Johan Fredrik Eckersberg in Christiania (now Oslo). After Eckersberg's death in 1870 he studied with Julius Middelthun at Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (''Den kgl. Tegneskole'') in Kristiania (now Oslo). He followed with four years of apprenticeship (1870–1874) in Copenhagen under the supervision of landscape painter Vilhelm Kyhn at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
