Asian Magazine
''Asian Magazine'' was a weekly news magazine aimed at the Asian community. It replaced ''Apna Hi Ghar Samajhiye'' which had been on air since 1968. Broadcast on BBC1 on Sunday mornings at 10am, the programme ran for five years from 20 April 1982 until 26 April 1987 and the final edition of the programme marked the end of television programming by the BBC in Hindi and Urdu. Three months later, a new English language magazine programme, ''Network East'', was launched and was broadcast on BBC2 on Saturday afternoons. Throughout its time on air, a midweek companion programme ''Gharbar ''Gharbar'' was a weekly BBC television programme for the Asian community, which aired from 1977 to 1987. Apna Hi Ghar Samajhiye
''Apna Hi Ghar Samajhiye'' (''Make Yourself at Home'') was a BBC television and radio programme, presented in Hindustani, with the aim of helping immigrants from South Asia to the United Kingdom to become integrated. The programme was announced on 4 October 1965. Television programme The first episode was broadcast at 9am on Sunday 10 October 1965 as "In Logon Se Miliye" meaning "Let Me Introduce You". In January 1966 this was altered to ''Apna Hi Ghar Samajhiye'' meaning "Make Yourself at Home". In 1966 it was presented by Mahendra Kaul, with Saleem Shahed. The theme song was composed and sung by Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish. In November 1968 there was another title change to ''Nai Zindagi Naya Jeevan'', meaning "New Way, New Life". ''Gharbar'' was a weekly BBC television programme for the Asian community, which aired from 1977 to 1987. Initially a 26-part series billed as "helping Asian families to help themselves", the programme was made permanent the following April and was aimed at Asian women. The programme generally consisted of features, a children's story and a musical item. Broadcast history The first edition was broadcast on BBC Two on 19 October 1977 at 10:20am and was presented by Lalita Ahmed, Rajni Kaul and Nahid Niazi. When schools programming moved from BBC1 to BBC2 in September 1983, Gharbar transferred to BBC One.
