Layyah District ( skr, , urd, ), is a district in the Punjab, Pakistan. It is located in the southern part of the province. Layyah City is the district headquarter of Layyah District. Layyah has hot desert climate. The main languages spoken in the district include Saraiki (66.67%), Punjabi (27.79%), Urdu (2.78%), and Pashto (2.29%). Geography It lies between 30–45 to 31–24 deg north latitudes and 70–44 to 71–50 deg east longitudes. Saraiki People
The Saraikis ( skr, ), are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group inhabiting parts of central and southeastern Pakistan, primarily in the southern part of the Pakistani province of Punjab They are mainly found in a region of southern Punjab known as Saraikistan, as well as in most parts of Derajat, which is located in the region where southwestern Punjab, southeastern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Balochistan meet. Derajat is bound by the Indus River to the east and the Sulaiman Mountains to the west. The Saraiki people follow many religions, though most are predominantly followers of Islam. A small minority of Saraikis follow Chistianity, Hinduism and Sikhism. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, many Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India where they are known as Multanis, Derawalis and Bhawalpuris. Karor Lal Esan
Karor Lal Esan ( Saraiki, Punjabi, ur, ) is a city of Layyah District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The city is the capital of Karor Lal Esan Tehsil and administrative subdivision of the district. History Etymology Its old name is Depal Pur. The city is partially named after a saint, Lal Esan who, it is believed, recited 10 million times the ''Surah Muzammil'' (a chapter from the Quran) while standing inside the Indus River. In Urdu 10 million is equal to 1 karor, which is why the city is called Karor Lal Esan. Lal Esan (original name: Sheikh Yousuf) was the grandfather of Bahauddin Zakariya Multani. Quaid e Azam Medical College ( ur, , or QAMC) is a medical college in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. History Quaid e Azam Medical College was founded on 2 December 1971 when its foundation stone was laid by the then Governor of Punjab, Lt Gen Attique-ur-Rehman (retd). The college is affiliated for clinical training to Bahawal Victoria Hospital & Civil Hospital Bahawalpur as well. The founding Principal was Prof Dr Nawab Muhammad Khan.
