Shakir Shuja Abadi
Shakir Shujabadi ( ur, ) is a prominent Saraiki-language poet (born 25 February 1954) in Shujabad, a small city near Multan, Pakistan . In 2007, he received his first presidential award. In 2017, he received his second presidential award. His first proper Mushaira was held in 1986. Shujabad
Shujaabad ( ur, ) is a city and the capital of Shujabad Tehsil of Multan District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is located about in south from Multan. Chenab River is situated in the west of city. Neighbouring settlements include Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan and Lodhran. Its population is about 600,000. History Shujabad is a historical city which dates back to the time of its capture by Muhammad ibn Qasim in 711 AD. The name of Shujabad is derived from its Afghan ruler's name Nawab Shuja Khan, the second son of Nawab Zahid Khan who twice remained the governor (Subedar) of Multan under Ahmed Shah Durrani's rule (also known as Ahmad Shah Abdali). He founded the Shujabad city in 1750 and built the fortification wall between 1767 and 1772. He left Multan and came to Shujabad in 1772 to save his life after he was badly defeated by the Mughals who laid siege to Multan. Saraiki People
The Saraikis ( skr, ), are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group inhabiting parts of central and southeastern Pakistan, primarily in the southern part of the Pakistani province of Punjab They are mainly found in a region of southern Punjab known as Saraikistan, as well as in most parts of Derajat, which is located in the region where southwestern Punjab, southeastern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Balochistan meet. Derajat is bound by the Indus River to the east and the Sulaiman Mountains to the west. The Saraiki people follow many religions, though most are predominantly followers of Islam. A small minority of Saraikis follow Chistianity, Hinduism and Sikhism. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, many Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India where they are known as Multanis, Derawalis and Bhawalpuris. Multan
Multan (; ) is a city in Punjab, Pakistan, on the bank of the Chenab River. Multan is Pakistan's seventh largest city as per the 2017 census, and the major cultural, religious and economic centre of southern Punjab. Multan is one of the List of oldest continuously inhabited cities#Asia, oldest continuously inhabited cities in Asia, with a history stretching deep into antiquity. ''Mushaira'' ( ur, , Mušā'ira) is a poetic symposium. It is an event (called ''mehfil'', Mushairi) where poets gather to perform their works. A mushaira is part of the Culture of North India, Pakistan and the Deccan, particularly among the Hyderabadi Muslims, and it regarded as a forum for free self-expression. Etymology According to Oxford English Dictionary; Urdu word ''Mushaira'' comes from an Arabic word “mušā'ara” meaning “vying poetry”.
