According to the liner notes, Heard recorded Mosaics first, but the record company wanted this album released first. The cover reads, "This album is dedicated to the memory of Francis A. Mark Heard
John Mark Heard III (December 16, 1951 – August 16, 1992) was an American record producer, folk rock singer and songwriter from Macon, Georgia. Heard released sixteen albums, and produced or performed with many artists, including: Sam Phillips (aka Leslie Phillips), Pierce Pettis, Phil Keaggy, Vigilantes of Love, Peter Buck of R.E.M. (who co-produced VOL's album ''Killing Floor'' with Heard), The Choir, Randy Stonehill and Michael Been of The Call. Heard produced part of Olivia Newton-John's ''The Rumour'' (1988), which also included a cover of Heard's own "Big and Strong" (originally called "How to Grow Up Big and Strong"). ''Fingerprint Recorders'' was a recording studio owned by Mark Heard, where he recorded most of his own records. The studio was located in Montrose, California. Many other artists also recorded there from time to time, including those that were on Heard's record label, Fingerprint Records. Albums that have at least in part been recorded at Fingerprint include albums by The Choir, Randy Stonehill and Phil Keaggy. Country producer and musician Buddy Miller started his career as an engineer for Heard at Fingerprint Recorders. Folk Rock
Folk rock is a hybrid music genre that combines the elements of folk and rock music, which arose in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in the mid-1960s. In the U.S., folk rock emerged from the folk music revival. Home Sweet Home Records (also known as CC Entertainment) is a record label, based in Dallas, Texas. History Home Sweet Home began in 1981, in Nashville, Tennessee. It was founded by singer, songwriter and producer Chris Christian. Since its introduction into the music industry, the label has released over one hundred projects, including many that charted on the Christian charts. In the 1980s, Home Sweet Home held a prominent position in the contemporary Christian music market. Albums were released by artists such as Steve Archer, Dan Peek, Chris Christian, White Heart and others. ''Mosaics'' is an album by Mark Heard, released in 1985 on Home Sweet Home Records. According to the liner notes in ''Ashes and Light'', this album was recorded first but delayed by the record company who wanted the less rock-oriented ''Ashes'' released first. Consequently, this was the first album recorded in Heard's own Fingerprint Recording Studio. Album cover The cover art included a mosaic of a photo of Heard. The photo was cut up into tiny squares. The sections were then sent to friends, musicians and onlookers to paint or scribble on. The pieces were brought back together and reassembled in a computer for the final album cover. David Mansfield
David Mansfield (born September 13, 1956) is an American musician and composer. Mansfield was raised in Leonia, New Jersey. His father, Newton Mansfield was a first violinist in the New York Philharmonic. David played guitar, pedal steel guitar and fiddle in his first band, called Quacky Duck and His Barnyard Friends, which also included two sons of Tony Bennett. Bob Dylan asked Mansfield to tour with him on his 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue tour; he remained in Dylan's band through their 1978 world tour. After the Revue ended in 1976, Mansfield and two other members of Dylan's band, T-Bone Burnett and Steven Soles, formed The Alpha Band. Harry Stinson (musician)
Harry Stinson is an American multi-instrumentalist, noted as a session drummer and vocalist in the Nashville music community. He is also a songwriter and producer. Biography Stinson grew up in Nashville, where he grew to love country music. He was in a high school band with Morris West, son of country star Dottie West. In 1970, Stinson first worked professionally in Dottie West's band the Heartaches, touring with Red Sovine and Don Gibson, and appearing on the Grand Ole Opry. In 1974, Stinson substituted for Willie Leacox for the band America's tour. Silver Then Stinson moved to California, where he joined the band Silver with John Batdorf, Tom Leadon, Brent Mydland, and Greg Collier. Silver had one top 20 hit in 1976 with "Wham Bam." Silver recorded one album, but broke up before recording another.
