Asana
An asana is a body posture, originally and still a general term for a sitting meditation pose,Verse 46, chapter II, "Patanjali Yoga sutras" by Swami Prabhavananda, published by the Sri Ramakrishna Math p. 111 and later extended in hatha yoga and modern yoga as exercise, to any type of position, adding reclining, standing, inverted, twisting, and balancing poses. The ''Yoga Sutras of Patanjali'' define "asana" as " position thatis steady and comfortable". Patanjali mentions the ability to sit for extended periods as one of the eight limbs of his system. ''Asana Journal'' is the only international yoga magazine published from India, both in English and Tamil, focusing on modern yoga, naturopathy and wellbeing. Origin Asana is the Sanskrit word for posture or seat. It is one of the eight limbs of Yoga. History and development The monthly ''Asana International Yoga Journal'' was started in 1999 by Asana Andiappan. Asana, Peru
Asana is an archaeological site by the Asana River, a tributary of the Osmore River, in the south-central Andes of southern Peru. The site is situated at an elevation of , with land use documented from . Asana was occupied over the course of 8,000 years; though the inhabitants were initially mobile foragers, long term habitation was marked at a later phase by residential architecture. Geography Asana is located on the north bank of the Asana River in the flat fertile valley along of the river. The geological and geomorphological features are causative factors for its unique setting. History An archaeological study of the Asana river valley was conducted 1986–89. Asana River
Asana River (Río Asana) is a waterway in the Moquegua Region of southern Peru. It is one of the tributaries of the Osmore River (also known as Moquegua or Tumilaca). The Asana, Peru, Asana archaeological site, occupied over the course of 8,000 years, is situated in a basin on the river's north bank. The Quellaveco mining project sought to divert the Asana for extractive waste material placement in its copper mining operations. Asana-Math is an OpenType mathematical font with advanced layout features based on the OpenType Math extensions. It was developed by Apostolos Syropoulos, based on the Type 1 pxfonts by Young Ryu. Asana-Math is freely available under the Open Font License. The word Asana (Ἀσάνα, Ásána) in the Doric dialect is the name of the Greek mythological goddess Athena. It is designed to look similar to, and to blend with, Palatino. Athena
Athena or Athene, often given the epithet Pallas, is an ancient Greek goddess associated with wisdom, warfare, and handicraft who was later syncretized with the Roman goddess Minerva. Athena was regarded as the patron and protectress of various cities across Greece, particularly the city of Athens, from which she most likely received her name.
