Aryan Chopra
Aryan Chopra (born 10 December 2001) is an Indian chess prodigy who became a grandmaster (GM) in 2016, at the age of 14 years, 9 months and 3 days. The title was officially awarded by FIDE in 2017. He became the second youngest Indian to become Grandmaster, after Parimarjan Negi. Currently he is India's fifth youngest Grandmaster. Chess career Chopra began playing chess at the age of six after an accident left him temporarily house-bound. Chopra achieved his first grandmaster norm at the 2015 Riga Technical University Open where he remained unbeaten. He earned his second GM norm at the 35th Zalakaros Open in May 2016 by putting up a strong performance and defeating multiple grandmasters. Chopra earned his third and final GM norm on 29 August 2016 when he defeated GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan of Armenia with black pieces in the final round of the Abu Dhabi Chess Championship Masters Tournament . Nigel David Short (born 1 June 1965) is an English chess grandmaster, columnist, coach, and commentator, who is the vice-president of FIDE since October 2018. Short earned the Grandmaster title at the age of 19, and was ranked third in the world by FIDE from July 1988 to July 1989. Bassem Amin
Bassem Amin (; born 9 September 1988) is an Egyptian chess player and medical doctor. He was awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2006. Amin is the highest rated Egyptian and African player and the only medical doctor to have a FIDE peak rating of 2700+. Amin is also a six-time and the current African chess champion. Career Early on in his chess career, Amin was the Arab Youth Chess Champion once in the U10 division, once in the U12 division, and twice in the U14 division. Chopra is a Khatri Hindu and Sikh surname. They belonged to the Barah-Ghar/ Bahri sub-caste of the Khatris which includes the clans of Dhawan, Kakkar, Kapoor, Khanna, Mehra, Malhotra, Sehgal, Seth, Tandon, Talwar, and Vohra. The clan claims to originate from one man called "Chaupat Rai" who was killed in a battle with Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni. Norm (chess)
A norm in chess is a high level of performance in a chess tournament. The level of performance is typically measured in tournament performance rating above a certain threshold (for instance, 2600 for GM norm), and there is a requirement on the level of tournament, for instance by a prescribed minimal number of participants of given title/level one meets. Several norms are among the requirements to receive a title such as Grandmaster from FIDE. Grandmaster norm To qualify for the title of Grandmaster (GM) of chess, a title awarded by FIDE, the World Chess Federation, a player must achieve two or more grandmaster norms in events covering a minimum of 27 games.
