Arup Kumar Goswami
Justice Arup Kumar Goswami (born 11 March 1961) is an Indian Judge. Presently, he is Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court. He is former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court and Sikkim High Court and Judge of Gauhati High Court. Career Graduated in Economics (Hons.) from Cotton College under Gauhati University in 1981. Obtained LL.B. Degree from Government Law College, Guwahati in 1985. Enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on 16 August 1985. Practiced mainly on the Civil, Criminal, Constitutional and Service matters. Was designated as Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court on 21 December 2004. Was Standing Counsel of the Gauhati High Court, Karbi-Anglong Autonomous Council and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council. Jorhat
Jorhat ( ) is one of the important cities and a growing urban centre in the state of Assam in India. Etymology Jorhat ("jor" means twin and "hat" means market) means two hats or mandis - "Masorhaat" and "Sowkihat" which existed on the opposite banks of the Bhugdoi river. History Jorhat was the last capital of the Ahom Kingdom, as a planned town under royal patronage. It is often spelt as "Jorehaut" during the British reign. In 1794, the Ahom King Gaurinath Singha shifted the capital from Sivasagar, erstwhile Rangpur, Assam, Rangpur to Jorhat. Many tanks were built around the capital city by the Ahom royalty such as Rajmao Pukhuri or Borpukhuri, Buragohain Pukhuri, Bolia Gohain Pukhuri, Kotoki Pukhuri and Mitha Pukhuri. Vijay Kumar Bist (born: 17 September 1957) is an Indian Judge and former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court and former Judge of Uttarakhand High Court. Career Bist was born in Lansdown, Pauri Garhwal district, in Uttarakhand. He passed from Intermediate College Kanskhet, Pauri Garhwal and completed LL.B. from Allahabad University. He started practice under Mr. S.P. Gupta, Senior Advocate from 1984 in the various courts of Uttar Pradesh as well as Allahabad High Court. The Gauhati High Court was promulgated by governor general of India on 1 March 1948 after the '' Government of India Act 1935'' was passed.
