Artsakh (song)
"Artsakh" ( hy, «Արցախ») is an instrumental folk song from Armenian contemporary composer Ara Gevorgyan's 1999 album ''Ani''. The song has become wildly popular in Armenia. Over the years, it has been used in cultural and political events and occasions. Figure skaters, gymnasts, and other athletes around the world have also used the song. Name Artsakh was one of the 15 provinces of the ancient Kingdom of Armenia. Today, Artsakh is still the Armenian name of the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The region achieved de facto independence alongside Armenian forces during the during the bloody war with Azerbaijan in 1988-94. The war is seen by Armenians as liberation of their historic lands and the song is a tribute to the Armenian victory. Ara Gevorgyan
Ara Gevorgyan ( hy, Արա Գևորգյան, born April 19, 1960) is an Armenian musician, composer and musical producer. In 2004 he was awarded the '' Honorary Artist of the Republic of Armenia'' title by the President Robert Kocharyan. Biography Gevorgyan is the son of Armenian folk-singer Valya Samvelyan. He studied at School #31 of Yerevan and at the A. Tigranyan Musical School at the same time. During the two years he studied at Yerevan #8 college of Fine Arts. From 1983 to 1987 he studied at Armenian State Pedagogical University at the faculty of woodwind instruments and pop music department. In 1987-1989 Gevorgyan taught conducting at the same Institute, then he worked at Armenian Television ("3 Alik" TV program). In 1983 he founded the "Rally" Armenian pop-rock band, the participant of "Song-85" festival. Original Dance
The original dance (OD) was one of the programs performed by figure skaters in ice dance competitions, in which the ice dancers skated "a dance of their own creation to dance music they have selected for the designated rhythm(s)".Rulebook, p. 90 It was normally the second of three programs in the competition, sandwiched between the compulsory dance (CD) and the free dance (FD). The rhythm(s) and type of music required for the OD changed every season, and were selected by the International Skating Union (ISU) before the start of the season. The ice dancers were free to choose their own music and choreography (within the specified constraints) and to create their own routines. They were judged on a set of required criteria, including skating skills and how well they interpreted the music and the rhythm. Anastasia Yuryevna Grebenkina (russian: Анастасия Юрьевна Гребёнкина, born 18 January 1979) is a former competitive ice dancer. She is best known for her partnership with Vazgen Azrojan with whom she represented Armenia at the 2006 Winter Olympics and won the bronze medal at the 2005 NHK Trophy. Career Grebenkina teamed up with Vazgen Azrojan in 1996 and skated with him until 1998, representing Russia. After their partnership ended, she skated with Vitali Novikov, also representing Russia. Grebenkina and Azrojan reformed their partnership in 2002, this time representing Armenia. Vazgen Azrojan (born 22 January 1977) is a retired Armenian ice dancer. He is best known for his partnership with Anastasia Grebenkina with whom he represented Armenia at the 2006 Winter Olympics and won the bronze medal at the 2005 NHK Trophy. Dinara Nailevna Gimatova ( tt-Cyrl, Динара Наил кызы Гиматова, russian: Динара Наильевна Гиматова; born 18 November 1986 in Astrakhan, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union) is an Azerbaijani gymnast of Volga Tatar ethnicity. 2006 Winter Olympics
The 2006 Winter Olympics, officially the XX Olympic Winter Games ( it, XX Giochi olimpici invernali) and also known as Torino 2006, were a winter multi-sport event held from 10 to 26 February 2006 in Turin, Italy. This marked the second time Italy had hosted the Winter Olympics, the first being in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo; Italy had also hosted the Summer Olympics in 1960 in Rome. Turin was selected as the host city for the 2006 Games in June 1999. The official motto of Torino 2006 was "Passion lives here". The Games' logo depicted a stylized profile of the Mole Antonelliana building, drawn in white and blue ice crystals, signifying the snow and the sky.
