Artilleros De Puebla
Artilleros de Puebla (English: ''Puebla Artillerymen'') were a professional American football team based in Puebla City, Mexico. The Artilleros competed in the Central Division of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The team played its home games at the Estadio Universitario BUAP. During its existence, the team never made it to playoffs. History The team was founded on 17 August 2018, as the first team of the 2019 Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional expansion (the other being the Osos Toluca, Osos), and the seventh team overall in the LFA. The name of the team is a tribute to the patriots that defeated the army of the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Artilleros is the Spanish word for artillerymen. Puebla de Zaragoza (; nah, Cuetlaxcoapan), formally Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza, formerly Puebla de los Ángeles during colonial times, or known in English simply as Puebla, is the seat of Puebla Municipality. Aztecas UDLAP is the name of the sports teams that represent the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP). American football History In 1947 the team began its life as the American football squad of Mexico City College with the nickname ''los Aztecas''. That same year the squad was admitted into the most important American football conference in Mexico, ''Liga Mayor''. In this conference the team plays against teams with long traditions such as the Pumas Dorados de la UNAM, Águilas Blancas of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Team Education, YMCA and the Military College. Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Prior to the 1934 standardization of the prolate spheroid shape of the ball, drop kicking was the prevalent method of kicking field goals and conversions, but even after its replacement by place kicking, until the 1960s the kicker almost always doubled at another position on the roster. Cinco de Mayo ( in Mexico, Spanish for "Fifth of May") is a yearly celebration held on May 5, which commemorates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. The victory of a smaller, poorly equipped Mexican force against the larger and better-armed French army was a morale boost for the Mexicans. Zaragoza died months after the battle from an illness, and a larger French force ultimately defeated the Mexican army at a Second Battle of Puebla and occupied Mexico City. However this was not the end of the war and when the American civil war ended the Union started loaning money and guns to Mexican liberals, pushing France and Mexican Conservatives to the edge of defeat. Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín (; March 24, 1829September 8, 1862) was a Mexican general and politician. He led the Mexican army of 600 men that defeated 6,500 invading French forces, including the elite French legionnaires at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 (mostly celebrated in the United States as ''Cinco de Mayo''). Early life Ignacio Zaragoza was born in the Mexican province of Texas, in the village of Bahía del Espíritu Santo, in the state of Coahuila y Tejas (now Goliad, Texas, in the United States) on March 24th in 1829. 2020 LFA Season
The 2020 LFA season was the fifth season of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA), the top American football league in Mexico. The regular season began on February 8 and was to conclude on April 26, with the playoffs beginning on May 1 and ending with the Tazón México V on May 17. Nevertheless, after week 5, on March 16, the LFA announced the suspension of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and on 29 March 2020 the league confirmed that the season was cancelled. Preseason events Expansion and stadium changes One new team joined the league: Pioneros, based in Querétaro City. Due to Pioneros joining the LFA and the league failing to secure a tenth expansion team, thus raising the number of teams to nine, the LFA took the decision that the Mayas would not participate in the season, returning in 2021. The 2019 LFA season was the fourth season of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The regular season began on February 22 and concluded on April 14. The playoffs commenced on April 26 and concluded on May 12 with the Condors defeating the Raptors to win the Tazón México IV. Preseason events Expansion and stadium changes Two new teams joined the league for the 2019 season: Artilleros Puebla, based in Puebla, and Osos Toluca, based in Toluca, State of Mexico.
