2020 LFA Season
The 2020 LFA season was the fifth season of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA), the top American football league in Mexico. The regular season began on February 8 and was to conclude on April 26, with the playoffs beginning on May 1 and ending with the Tazón México V on May 17. Nevertheless, after week 5, on March 16, the LFA announced the suspension of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and on 29 March 2020 the league confirmed that the season was cancelled. Preseason events Expansion and stadium changes One new team joined the league: Pioneros, based in Querétaro City. Due to Pioneros joining the LFA and the league failing to secure a tenth expansion team, thus raising the number of teams to nine, the LFA took the decision that the Mayas would not participate in the season, returning in 2021. Estadio Azteca
Estadio Azteca () is a multi-purpose stadium located in Mexico City. It is the official home of football clubs Club América and Cruz Azul as well as the Mexico national football team. Borregos Salvajes Monterrey
The Borregos Salvajes Monterrey (English: ''Monterrey Wild Rams'') team represents the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (variously Tec de Monterrey or ITESM) in the sport of American football. Borregos Salvajes México
Borregos Salvajes México is a college American football team that represents the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, Campus State of Mexico. Unlike traditional teams such as Pumas Dorados de la UNAM, Aguilas Blancas or Borregos Salvajes (Monterrey), Borregos Salvajes-CEM is a younger program tracing is roots to the late-1970s. Nonetheless, it has recently experienced success on the playing field having won two national championships in 2000 and 2003. With the expansion of the private education system of the ITESM, founded some alternative campus outside its home city of Monterrey, one of those campus were the Campus Estado de México. Organización Nacional Estudiantil De Fútbol Americano
The National Student Organization of American Football ( or ''ONEFA'') is the major college football league in Mexico. American football has been played in Mexico since the early 1920s in different colleges and universities, mainly in Mexico City. In 1928 the first professional championship was played, organized by Jorge Braniff. From the 1920s to the 1970s more universities and colleges joined the championship, and four categories, called ''fuerzas'' were created. The First ''Fuerza'' became the National League in 1970, and in 1978 it was reorganized under the name ONEFA. In 2010 a breakaway league, CONADEIP, was formed by the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education system, UDLAP and additional private universities. Aztecas UDLAP is the name of the sports teams that represent the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP). American football History In 1947 the team began its life as the American football squad of Mexico City College with the nickname ''los Aztecas''. That same year the squad was admitted into the most important American football conference in Mexico, ''Liga Mayor''. Dinos Saltillo
Dinos de Saltillo (English: ''Saltillo Dinos'') are an American football team based in Saltillo, Mexico. The Dinos compete in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The team plays its home games at the Estadio Francisco I. Madero. History The team was founded on 28 September 2016, in resemblance of the semi-professional team with the same name that played in the Mexican Master Football League from 1995 to 1996 in the city of Saltillo. Osos Toluca
Osos de Toluca (English: ''Toluca Bears'') were an American football team based in Toluca, Mexico. The Osos competed in the Central Division of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. During its existence, the team never made it to playoffs. History The team was founded on 4 September 2018, as the second team of the 2019 Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional expansion (the other being the Artilleros), and the eight team overall in the LFA. Águilas () is a municipality and seaport of southeastern Spain, in the province of Murcia. Condors CDMX
The Condors LFA or Condors CDMX, were an American football team that began in Mexico City, Mexico. The Condors competed in the LFA, the top American football league in Mexico. The team had won Tazon Mexico IV. History The team was founded in 2015 as one of the charter members of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, alongside Eagles, Mayas and Raptors. The club's name and colours were chosen as a remembrance to the defunct college football team Cóndores of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, which played from 1970 to 1998, winning 10 National Championships. 2018 LFA Season
The 2018 LFA season was the third season of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional. The season saw all previous teams return with no additional new ones. The Eagles changed their team name to the Mexicas. This would be the first season that saw the championship, the Tazón México held at a neutral site of the Estadio Azul in Mexico City. The league season began on February 16 and concluded on the April 8. The playoffs began on the April 14 and concluded on April 22 with the Mexicas beating the Raptors in Taźon México III.
