Article 1 – Democratic And Progressive Movement
Article One (, Art.1), officially Article 1 – Democratic and Progressive Movement (''Articolo 1 – Movimento Democratico e Progressista'', Art.1–MDP), was a social-democratic political party in Italy. Art.1 was formed in February 2017 by a left-wing split from the Democratic Party (PD) and soon joined by a group of splinters from Italian Left (SI). The party was led by its secretary Roberto Speranza. Among its leading members are former Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema, former PD secretaries Pier Luigi Bersani and Guglielmo Epifani, and Arturo Scotto. Enrico Rossi, then President of Tuscany, was among the founding members, before returning into the PD one year later. In December 2017, Art.1 was a founding member of Free and Equal (LeU), a left-wing joint list for the 2018 general election. Roberto Speranza (born 4 January 1979) is an Italian politician of the Chamber of Deputies who served as national secretary of Article One. From 5 September 2019 until 22 October 2022, he has been serving as Minister of Health in the government of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and was later confirmed by Prime Minister Mario Draghi. Enrico Rossi (born 25 August 1958) is an Italian politician and former President of Tuscany. Early life He was born into a working-class family in 1958 and in 1982 he graduated with a degree in philosophy with a thesis on the Hungarian philosopher Ágnes Heller. Guglielmo Epifani (24 March 1950 – 7 June 2021) was an Italian trade unionist and politician. From 2002 to 2010, he was the General Secretary of the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), which was the biggest trade union in Europe.
