Arthur Virgílio Neto
Arthur Virgilio do Carmo Ribeiro Neto (born November 15, 1945) better known as Arthur Virgilio or Arthur Neto, is a Brazilian politician and lawyer, career diplomat, member and one of the founders of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party. Since 2013, he serves as the mayor of his hometown Manaus, being re-elected for the office in 2016. Prior, Virgílio Neto already served as mayor of Manaus from 1989 to 1992. Virgilio Neto was elected twice to the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies between 1982 and 1986 and was a Senator for the State of Amazonas. He became one of the opposition leaders in the Brazilian senate of then-President Lula da Silva. Manaus
Manaus () is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Amazonas. It is the seventh-largest city in Brazil, with an estimated 2020 population of 2,219,580 distributed over a land area of about . David Almeida
David Antônio Abisai Pereira de Almeida, (born February 8, 1969) better known as David Almeida, is a Brazilian lawyer and politician affiliated to the Avante. He was elected mayor of Manaus in the municipal elections of Brazil in 2020. In 2017 he was interim Governor of Amazonas after the annulment of José Melo de Oliveira and his vice-governor by TSE (Superior Electoral Court), due to problems in Brazilian justice. Amazonino Mendes
Amazonino Armando Mendes (born November 16, 1939) is a Brazilian politician. He served as the Governor of the Brazilian state of Amazonas for three non-consecutive tenures. He was born in Eirunepé, Amazonas. He first served as governor from 1987 until April 2, 1990, when he resigned from office to run for the Federal Senate. He was elected governor in 1995, serving from 1995 until 2003. In 2017, Mendes was elected Governor of Amazonas succeeding David Almeida, who assumed as interim following the Superior Electoral Court impeachment of former Governor José Melo and former Vice Governor Henrique Oliveira. As a result, the president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas State assumed until the elections were held on the 6th and 27 August. Brazilian Senate
The Federal Senate ( pt, Senado Federal) is the upper house of the National Congress of Brazil. When created under the Imperial Constitution in 1824, it was based on the House of Lords of the British Parliament, but since the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889 and under the first republican Constitution the Federal Senate has resembled the United States Senate. Eduardo Braga
Carlos Eduardo de Sousa Braga (born December 6, 1960) is a Brazilian politician and businessman, currently a republic senator from Amazonas. Better known as ''Eduardo Braga'', he was a councilman of Manaus (1981–1985), state deputy of amazonas (1987–1991), federal deputy from amazonas (1991–1993), vice-mayor of Manaus (1993–1994) and mayor of Manaus (1994–1997). He campaigned for the government of Amazonas in 1998 and for the city hall of Manaus in 2000 without success. He was elected governor of Amazonas in October 2002, in the first turn, with 52.4% of the votes, and assumed office on 1 January 2003. In 2006, Braga was re-elected, in the first turn. The Chamber of Deputies ( pt, Câmara dos Deputados) is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current President of the Chamber is the Deputy Arthur Lira ( PP- AL), who was elected on 1 February 2021. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994.
