Arthur Jervis
Arthur Warden Jervis (26 February 1905 – 12 December 1987) was an international motorcycle speedway rider from England. He earned two international caps for the England national speedway team. Biography Jervis, born in Coventry, rode in the pioneer years of British speedway, riding dirt track meetings in his home city of Coventry from the age of 14 and becoming champion of the Midlands and North in 1928. He also bought a garage in Coventry. He began his British leagues career riding for White City Manchester during the inaugural 1929 Speedway English Dirt Track League season. His two seasons with the Manchester club were chaotic because they withdrew from the league on both occasions. He also raced a couple of times for Belle Vue Aces. In 1931, Leicester Super team manager Alec Jackson signed Jervis as the new captain, also signing Australian international Bruce McCullum, Tommy Price, Cliff Watson, and Alf Summersby. St Ouen, Jersey
St Ouen (Jèrriais: ''Saint Ouën'', french: Saint-Ouen) is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey in the Channel Islands. It is around north-west of St Helier. It has a population of 4,097. The parish is the largest parish by surface area, covering 8,525 vergées (15 km2), and is located in part on a peninsula. The parish is largely agricultural. Thomas Arthur Price (28 October 1907 - April 1989) was a motorcycle speedway rider who rode for several teams between 1929 and 1937. 1932 Speedway National League
The National League was formed in 1932 combining teams from the Northern League and Southern League. It was the fourth season of speedway in the United Kingdom. Summary From the teams that finished the 1931 Northern League, Leeds Lions and Preston closed down, leaving only Belle Vue Aces and Sheffield. From the 1931 Southern League, High Beech and Lea Bridge had closed Plymouth Tigers were new competitors. In the first half of the season, the teams competed for the National Association Trophy in a league format won by Stamford Bridge Pensioners. During this phase Southampton Saints moved to Lea Bridge and rode as Clapton Saints and at the end of the phase Sheffield dropped out. Eric Kemp Langton (27 September 1907 – 1999) was an English motorcycle speedway who won the Star Riders' Championship in 1932, the forerunner to the Speedway World Championship. The Belle Vue Aces are a British motorcycle speedway, speedway club, based in Manchester. The club hold the record of having won the top tier List of United Kingdom speedway league champions, League championship 13 times. They currently compete in the SGB Premiership, racing at The National Speedway Stadium, with home matches usually taking place on Monday evenings. They also run a second team in the National League (speedway), National Development League, known as the Belle Vue Colts. History Racing first took place in 1928 at the Belle Vue (greyhound racing), Belle Vue greyhound stadium in Kirkmanshulme Lane before moving the following year to a specially built Hyde Road (speedway), stadium nearby on Hyde Road. The 1929 English Dirt Track League was the inaugural season of speedway in the United Kingdom for Northern English teams. There was also a Southern League called the 1929 Speedway Southern League that started during the same year. Summary The season was littered with mid-season withdrawals but eventually the Leeds were crowned champions. In 1930, the league was renamed the Northern League so the league existed for just one year. White City Speedway (Manchester) withdrew from the league after a dispute and would have been crowned champions if they had not done so because they were leading the table at the time. Dennis Atkinson suffered critical injuries on 12 July 1929, following an accident at Cleveland Park Stadium riding in a Golden Helmet meeting. He died the following day.
