Arthur Gray (rugby)
Arthur Gray (4 September 1917 – 25 August 1991) was an English rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s. He played representative level rugby union (RU) for England, and at club level for Otley, as a full-back, i.e. number 15, and club level rugby league (RL) for Wakefield Trinity ( Heritage № 560), as a , i.e. number 1. Background Arthur Gray was born in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, and he died aged 73 in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. Leeds
Leeds () is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Leeds district in West Yorkshire, England. It is built around the River Aire and is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines. 1949–50 Northern Rugby Football League Season
The 1949–50 Rugby Football League season was the 55th season of rugby league football. First placed Wigan successfully defended a challenge from second placed Huddersfield in the play-off final to claim the Rugby Football League Championship. The Challenge Cup winners were Warrington who beat Widnes 19-0 in the final. Wigan won the Lancashire League, and Huddersfield won the Yorkshire League. Wigan beat Leigh 20–7 to win the Lancashire Cup, and Bradford beat Huddersfield 11–4 to win the Yorkshire Cup. Crowds peaked in 1949-50 with a record 69.8 million paying to watch rugby league matches. Championship This season the Rugby Football League Championship was determined by a final. 1947 Five Nations Championship
The 1947 Five Nations Championship was the eighteenth series of the rugby union Five Nations Championship. Including the previous incarnations as the Home Nations and Five Nations, this was the fifty-third series of the northern hemisphere rugby union championship. Ten matches were played between 1 January and 19 April. It was contested by England, France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The competition was not only the first after World War II, but also marked the return of France after an absence of 16 years. ''Les Bleus'' had been expelled from the tournament after the 1931 event over allegations of professionalism and administrative deficiencies; they were readmitted after the 1939 tournament, but shortly thereafter war forced the suspension of international rugby.
