Arne Gilje
Arne Gilje (born 22 December 1956) is a retired Norwegian competition rower and twice World Champion. He won a gold medal in lightweight double sculls at the 1978 World Rowing Championships in Copenhagen, together with Pål Børnick. held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Gilje and Børnick won a second gold medal in lightweight double sculls at the 1979 World Championships in Lake Bled Lake Bled ( sl, Blejsko jezero; german: Bleder See, Veldeser See) is a lake in the Julian Alps of the Upper Carniolan region of northwestern Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. World Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It is a week-long event held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer and in non-Olympic years is the highlight of the international rowing calendar. History The first event was held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1962. The event then was held every four years until 1974, when it became an annual competition. Also in 1974, Men's lightweight and Women's open weight events were added to the championships. Initially, Men's events were 2000 metres long and Women's events 1000 metres. Pål Børnick (born 3 November 1955) is a Norwegian competition rower and twice World Champion. He received a silver medal in lightweight coxless fours at the 1976 World Rowing Championships in Villach, Austria. The team consisted of Edd Hillstad, Per Arvid Steen, Ivar Sølberg and Børnick. Børnick won a gold medal in lightweight double sculls at the 1978 FISA Lightweight Championships in Copenhagen, together with Arne Gilje. While the main championship was held in Cambridge, New Zealand, the lightweight championship was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Gilje and Børnick won a second gold medal at the 1979 World Championships in Lake Bled, Yugoslavia. He resides at Geilo is a centre in the municipality of Hol in Viken county, Norway.
