Armenian National Basketball Team
The Armenian national basketball team (, ''Hayastani basketboli azgayin havak'akan'') is the national basketball team representing Armenia. The national team is directed by the Basketball Federation of Armenia. Since 2006, the President of the federation is Hrachya Rostomyan. History In December 2015, it was announced that the men's national team would play in its first official tournament ever in Summer 2016, after joining the 2016 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries. The team won the tournament by beating Moldova national basketball team in the gold medal game 79–71. Armenia's debut in major competition was in the 2019 World Cup qualification, where despite achieving three wins in six matches, it was eliminated in the first round. In 2018, after qualifying to the EuroBasket 2021 second round of the pre-qualifiers, the team withdrew due to financial constraint. Rex Kalamian
Rex Kalamian is an American professional basketball coach who serves as assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the head coach for the Armenia men's national basketball team. He previously had coaching terms with the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Toronto Raptors. He is well known for his nine years with the Clippers. Coaching career Oklahoma City Thunder (2009–2015) Kalamian spent six seasons with the Thunder, including the final two as lead assistant for Scott Brooks. The Thunder posted a 316-160 (.664) mark during the regular season and was 39-34 (.534) in the postseason during Kalamian's tenure. Oklahoma City won eight-of-13 playoff series. 2022 FIBA European Championship For Small Countries
The 2022 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries was the 18th edition of this competition. It took place in Ta' Qali, Malta, from 28 June to 3 July 2022. Ireland were the defending champions; but they didn't participate in this edition. Participating teams Ireland, Moldova and Norway did not participate this season. They were replaced by Armenia, winners in 2016, which was about to come back to competition after its withdrawal from the EuroBasket 2021 pre-qualifiers, and Azerbaijan, winners in 2006 and 2008, which was set for a comeback to competition since its participation in the EuroBasket 2013 qualification.
