Armed Police Battalion
The Armed Police Battalion is a specialised unit of the Bangladesh Police. It is headquartered in Dhaka. History The Armed Police Battalion was formed on 1 October 1975 as a specialized force of the Bangladesh Police through The Armed Police Battalion Ordinance 1979. The unit has 11 battalions under its command and the Special Security and Protection Battalion has two battalions. On 21 June 2011 Armed Police Battalion launched its first all women personal unit. Uttara Model Town or simply Uttara ( bn, উত্তরা) is a suburb of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The name derives from the Bengali word ''uttar'' meaning "north". It lies on the road to Gazipur, and adjoins Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Special Security And Protection Battalion
The Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBN) ( bn, স্পেশাল সিকিউরিটি অ্যান্ড প্রটেকশন ব্যাটালিয়ন,(এসপিবিএন)) is a specialized unit of the Bangladesh Police. The battalion provides protection to the President of Bangladesh, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and any person designated as VIP by the Government including visiting foreign dignitaries. It is also responsible for the security of VIPs’ offices and residences and venues of programs. It works alongside Special Security Force, Special Branch, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and President Guard Regiment. The National Security Guard (NSG), commonly known as Black Cats, is a counter-terrorism unit of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was founded on 16 October 1984, following Operation Blue Star, for combating terrorist activities and protect states against internal disturbances. July 2016 Dhaka Attack
On the night of 1 July 2016, at 21:20 local time, five militants took hostages and opened fire on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan Thana. The assailants entered the bakery with crude bombs, machetes, pistols, and took several dozen hostages (foreigners and locals). In the immediate response, while Dhaka Metropolitan Police tried to regain control of the bakery, two police officers were shot dead by the assailants. 29 people were killed, including 20 hostages (17 foreigners and 3 locals), two police officers, five gunmen, and two bakery staff.
