Armathwaite, Tennessee
Armathwaite is an unincorporated community in Fentress County, Tennessee, United States. It is located along Tennessee State Route 52 between Allardt and Rugby, in Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau region. The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is located to the northeast. The community was first settled in the 1840s. Around 1881, Alwyn Maude, a Rugby colonist, established a post office in the community, and named it for his home village of Armathwaite Armathwaite is a village in the English ceremonial county of Cumbria. Armathwaite
Armathwaite is a village in the English ceremonial county of Cumbria. Historically within the county of Cumberland, Armathwaite lies on the River Eden, forms part of Eden district and is served by Armathwaite railway station. The majority of the village is in Hesket civil parish but with some buildings in the parish of Ainstable and others on the outskirts of the village located in the parish of Wetheral, within the City of Carlisle district. The castle on the west bank of the river was originally a pele tower with a large but undistinguished Edwardian extension. The parish church of Christ and St Mary was formerly a chapel-of-ease in the parish of Hesket-in-the-Forest and is one of the smallest parish churches in England. By the 17th century the original chapel had become ruinous but it was rebuilt before 1688 by Richard Skelton of Armathwaite Castle. Big South Fork National River And Recreation Area
The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, commonly known as Big South Fork, preserves the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries in northeastern Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky. Within it are reminders of the time when the area was subjected to logging and mining expansion. The community of No Business was located by No Business Creek in Tennessee; first settled in 1796, it had been abandoned by late 1960. In addition, the former mining community of Blue Heron, Kentucky is preserved and interpreted via signage. Cumberland Plateau
The Cumberland Plateau is the southern part of the Appalachian Plateau in the Appalachian Mountains of the United States. Rugby, Tennessee
Rugby is an unincorporated community in Morgan and Scott counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Founded in 1880 by English author Thomas Hughes, Rugby was built as an experimental utopian colony. While Hughes's experiment largely failed, a small community lingered at Rugby throughout the 20th century. In the 1960s, residents, friends and descendants of Rugby began restoring the original design and layout of the community, preserving surviving structures and reconstructing others. Allardt is a city in Fentress County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 555 at the 2020 census. The current mayor Ms. Patricia (Pat) Brown Clark was elected in 2018. According to the city charter, there are three city council board members, currently (as of 2018) Chris Crabtree, Thomas Potter, and Michael Wiley. History After 1880, Frederick Allardt and Bruno Gernt brought a group of Germans from Michigan to settle in the area. The town was incorporated in 1964. State Route 52 (SR 52) is an east–west state highway that crosses eight counties in northern and northeastern Tennessee. The route originates in Orlinda along SR 49 and ends in Elgin along U.S. Route 27 (US 27). SR 52 is mostly a primary route, but becomes secondary west of I-65. Between Celina and Livingston it is part of Corridor J of the Appalachian Development Highway System. Route description In the border counties SR 52 begins as a secondary state route in Orlinda at SR 49 in Robertson County.
