Armageddon 2008
The 2008 Armageddon was the ninth and final Armageddon professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was held for wrestlers from the promotion's Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brand divisions. The event took place on December 14, 2008, at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York. It was the first and only Armageddon PPV broadcast in high definition. In 2009, the event was replaced by TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. Seven professional wrestling matches were held on the event's card. During the SmackDown main event, Jeff Hardy defeated Triple H and WWE Champion Edge in a Triple Threat match to win the championship. In sports, a card lists the matches taking place in a title match combat-sport event. Cards include a main event match and the undercard listing the rest of the matches. The undercard may be divided into a midcard and a lower card, according to the perceived importance of the matches. Promoters schedule matches to occur in ascending order of importance. The WWE Intercontinental Championship is a professional wrestling championship created and promoted by the American promotion WWE, currently defended on the SmackDown brand division. The World Heavyweight Championship was a professional wrestling world heavyweight championship owned by WWE.
