Arlo Bugeja
Arlo (Budgie) Bugeja (born 18 March 1986 in Humbug Scrub, Adelaide, South Australia) is an Australian speedway rider. Starting with Gillman Speedway he moved to the UK to mechanic for Glasgow Tigers' Lee Smethills, before getting his Premier League break with Redcar Bears. UK career Bugeja began his UK career at the Redcar Bears in the Premier League in 2007. He stood in for the injured Daniel Giffard for 10 matches. Giffard returned and he joined Berwick Bandits for the remainder of the season. He returned to Redcar for the 2008 season only missing 3 weeks due to a broken wrist. He continued with Redcar the following season but in 2010 he signed on loan for the Sheffield Tigers and the Edinburgh Monarchs The Edinburgh Monarchs are a Scottish Speedway team, currently based in Armadale. Lee Kenneth Smethills (born 30 March 1982 in Bolton, Greater Manchester) is a former professional motorcycle speedway rider from England. Smethills rode for various clubs across all of the three divisions of British Speedway from 1998 until 2009. The Premier League was the second tier of Motorcycle speedway, speedway in the United Kingdom (with the exception of the 1995 and 1996 seasons) and governed by The Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). The Premier League was founded in 1995 when the two divisions of the British League were amalgamated. In 1997, the Elite League (speedway), Elite League was created as a new top tier with the Premier League becoming the second tier. The league operated until 2016 when British speedway was restructured with the formation of the SGB Premiership and SGB Championship. As of 2016, there were 13 teams competing in this tier of British Speedway, contesting 6 competitions for silverware. Glasgow Tigers are a motorcycle speedway team from Glasgow, Scotland. Formed in 1928, the club adopted the Tigers nickname in 1946 and compete in the British SGB Championship. The team race at Ashfield Stadium, the home of Ashfield F.C., and celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2021. Gillman Speedway (sometimes called Gillman Speedway Stadium) is a purpose built, long motorcycle speedway located in the Adelaide suburb of Gillman in South Australia. The track opened in 1998 and runs approximately 13 meetings per season from October to March/April.
