Gillman Speedway
Gillman Speedway (sometimes called Gillman Speedway Stadium) is a purpose built, long motorcycle speedway located in the Adelaide suburb of Gillman in South Australia. The track opened in 1998 and runs approximately 13 meetings per season from October to March/April. Gillman Speedway is currently managed and promoted by former Rowley Park Speedway Sidecar racer David Parker. History The sudden and forced closure of the North Arm Speedway at the end of the 1996–97 season left Adelaide without a weekly operating venue for motorcycle speedway for the first time in almost 80 years. Australian Under-21 Individual Speedway Championship
The Australian Under-21 Speedway Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held each year since 1986, with the exception of 1994 and 1995, to determine the Australian Under-21 national champion. The event is organised by Motorcycling Australia (MA). The event was run as the Australian Under-18 Championship in 1986. This lasted just one year and was changed to the Under-21 Championship in 1987 to bring it in line with the Individual Speedway Junior World Championship which is also for Under-21s. The inaugural Under-21 Championship in 1987 was held at the Undera Park Speedway in Victoria. Queensland riders scored a trifecta. The championship was won by Gary Allan from brothers Steve and Tony Langdon. It would take another 22 years (2009) before another Queenslander would step on the podium when Darcy Ward won the first of three straight titles. Travis McGowan
Travis McGowan (born 13 January 1981 in Mildura, Victoria) is an Australian speedway rider. Career McGowan started racing motorbikes the age of ten, and in 1993 he won the Australian Under-16 Championship at Darwin's Northline Speedway. Success continued as he won the Australian Under-21 Speedway Championship in 1998, 2000 and 2002, as well as taking five consecutive victories in the Victorian State Championship between 2001 and 2005. By winning the Victorian title five times in a row, McGowan broke the record of four straight wins previously held by Mildura speedway legends Phil Crump (1972-1975, 1979-1982) and Leigh Adams (1989-1992). In 1999 McGowan was offered a team spot for the King's Lynn Stars in the British Elite League. He remained in the team for the following season but returned to Australia in 2001. Shane Andrew Parker (born 29 April 1970 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former Australian motorcycle speedway rider and a four time South Australian Champion. Currently he is riding in the Australian season at his home track of Gillman Speedway in Adelaide, and finished second in the 2012/13 South Australian Championship behind reigning champion and Speedway Grand Prix rider, Troy Batchelor. Shane Parker holds one of the unluckiest records in Australian speedway, having been the runner-up in the South Australian title on seven occasions during his career. Parker retired from riding in 2014.
