Arles–Kilcruise GAA Gaelic Athletic Association Club is a gaelic football club in County Laois, Republic of Ireland. Founded in October 1960, the club colours are maroon and white. The club won its only Laois Senior Football Championship title to date in 2003 under the captaincy of Paudge Conway. Arles won the Laois Junior Football Championship in 202 and followed up with the intermediate title two years later. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. County Laois ( ; gle, Contae Laoise) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and in the province of Leinster. It was known as Queen's County from 1556 to 1922. Laois All-County Football League
The Laois All-County Football League (ACFL) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Laois GAA clubs. There are seven divisions and teams are promoted and relegated according to their league standing each year. Prior to the inception of the All-County Football League, league competitions titled the Senior Football League, Intermediate Football League and Junior Football League were in place. These would have roughly equated to the current top three or four divisions in the ACFL. The Laois Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1907. The Heath are the title holders (2022) defeating Arles–Kilcruise in the Final. Format The Intermediate Championship has a 'back door' and operates similarly to the Senior Championship (and Junior Championship C only) by going for a straight knockout but the 'back door' is in place for anyone losing out. Chris Conway
Chris Conway is a Gaelic football coach and player from County Laois. He plays for the Arles-Kilcruise club. He formerly played at centre forward for Laois and in 2003 was part of the Laois team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time since 1946, before departing the inter-county scene after the 2006 season. Conway emerged on to the scene in 1996 as part of the Laois minor team that won the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship title. In 2003 his club Arles-Kilcruise won the Laois Senior Football Championship title under the captaincy of his brother, Paudge. Conway also had a coaching role with Knockbeg College, where he is a schoolteacher, and guided his "alma mater" to a 2005 All-Ireland Senior Colleges title.
