Arkansas Highway 66 (AR 66 and Hwy. 66) is an east–west state highway in north central Arkansas. The route of runs from US Route 65 in Leslie east to AR 9 in Mountain View. Route description AR 66 begins in Leslie at US 65 near the American Legion Post No. 131 and runs past the Farmers Bank Building, the Dr. Clay House, and the Dr. Robinson House. The route winds east as a two–lane rural highway through Oxley to Highway 74. Further east, Highway 66 continues through Alco by the Alco School to intersect and briefly concur with Highway 263 at Timbo near the Jim Morris Barn. Arkansas State Highway And Transportation Department
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. The department is responsible for implementing policy made by the Arkansas State Highway Commission, a board of officials appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to direct transportation policy in the state. The department's director is appointed by the commission to hire staff and manage construction and maintenance on Arkansas's highways. Brewer's Mill
Brewer's Mill is a historic industrial facility on Arkansas Highway 66, just west of the central business district of Mountain View, Arkansas. It is a two-story wood-frame structure with flanking single-story wings, finished in weatherboard and a metal roof. Built in 1915, it is the only surviving industrial building of its type in Stone County. Francis Brewer built it as a grist mill, a function to which it was restored in the 1980s. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Created during the 1926 Arkansas state highway numbering, the original alignment remains between Bradford and Pleasant Plains, though it has been revised and extended over the years. The Clarence Anderson Barn is a historic barn on the north side of Arkansas Highway 66 in the hamlet of Newnata, Arkansas. It is a two-story wood-frame structure, with vertical board siding and enclosed sheds on the side. The interior is organized in a transverse crib manner. Built in 1925, the building is distinctive for the pair of gable-roof dormers placed near the ridge line; this sort of feature is not usually found on barns in the region. The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Jim Morris Barn
The Jim Morris Barn is a historic barn on the south side of Arkansas Highway 66 in Timbo, Arkansas. It is a two-story gambrel-roofed frame structure, with a stone foundation and board-and-batten exterior. Built in a transverse crib plan, it has a narrow central path instead of a wide drive typical of the form. Built c. 1900, it is unusual in having been designed specifically for the stabling of horses, rather than more general-purpose usage of most area barns. The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Timbo, Arkansas
Timbo is an unincorporated community in Stone County, Arkansas, United States. It is in the Ozark Mountains region of the northern part of the state and is near the town of Mountain View. Timbo is known particularly for its strong tradition of old-time music. Music legend Jimmy Driftwood lived there. In 1959, Alan Lomax recorded music in Timbo (as well as in Heber Springs, Hughes, and Landis Timbo's ZIP code is 72680, although it previously used the ZIP code 72657, which was formerly served by the small post office at nearby Newnata, Arkansas, Newnata (which is no longer in operation). A low-volume, two-lane road, Highway 263 connects several rural unincorporated communities to the state highway system. Alco School
The Alco School is a former educational facility located just north of Arkansas Highway 66 in rural western Stone County, Arkansas, not far from the hamlet of Alco. It is a single-story stone structure, with a hip roof that has two eyebrow dormers. The main entry is on the western facade, sheltered by a parapeted porch. The interior originally had two classrooms, and has been converted to residential use. The school was built in 1938 as a National Youth Administration works project. The school building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Arkansas Highway 74 (AR 74 and Hwy. 74) is a series of state highways of total in Northwest and north central Arkansas and is divided into eight separate sections. Route description The westernmost section route begins in Devil's Den State Park at AR 170. The route winding out of the park heading east.
