Arkansas Highway 173 (1940–1979)
Highway 173 (AR 173, Ark. 173, and Hwy. 173) is a former state highway in Craighead County, Arkansas. Between designation as a state highway in 1940 and decommissioning to the city street system in 1979, it was maintained by the Arkansas Highway Department (AHD), now known as the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). Route description Highway 173 began at US Highway 63 (US 63, present-day AR 18) east of Jonesboro, the county seat of Craighead County. It ran due north as a section line road past a Civilian Conservation Corps camp through an unincorporated area. Continuing north, AR 173 crossed the St. Louis Southwestern Railway tracks and St. Louis and San Francisco Railway tracks and passed through the campus of Arkansas State College (now known as Arkansas State University), an area known as Aggie (the former nickname of the college's athletic teams). Arkansas Highway Department
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. The department is responsible for implementing policy made by the Arkansas State Highway Commission, a board of officials appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to direct transportation policy in the state. The department's director is appointed by the commission to hire staff and manage construction and maintenance on Arkansas's highways. The primary duty of ARDOT is the maintenance and management of the over Arkansas Highway System. The department also conducts planning, public transportation, the State Aid County Road Program, the Arkansas Highway Police, and Federal-Aid project administration. The term county judge is applied as a descriptor, sometimes as a title, for a person who presides over a county court. Arkansas Highway 91
Highway 91 (AR 91, Ark. 91, and Hwy. 91) is a north–south state highway in the Upper Arkansas Delta. The route of begins at US Highway 49 (US 49) and Highway 1 at Jonesboro and runs north to US 412B in Walnut Ridge. The route is maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). Route description AR 91 begins in northwest Jonesboro at US 63 BUS. The route runs west in a concurrency with AR 18 over Interstate 555 (I-555) and US 63 as Dan Avenue. The concurrency continues west as Kings Highway until AR 18 turns south near Dryden. AR 91 meets AR 230 and AR 228 briefly in rural Lawrence County before again crossing US 63. The route continues north to cross I-57/US 67 before terminating at US 412B in Walnut Ridge. The Arkansas State Red Wolves are the athletic teams of Arkansas State University. They are a member of the Sun Belt Conference in all sports except women's Ten-pin bowling, bowling, a sport not sponsored by that league, competing at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) NCAA Division I, Division I level.
