Arizona State Route 75, abbreviated as SR 75, is a state highway in eastern Arizona that stretches from its junction with U.S. Route 191 and State Route 78 near Greenlee County Airport south to its junction with U.S. Route 70 in Duncan. It is primarily a shortcut for north and southbound traffic between Duncan and Clifton. Route description The southern terminus of SR 75 is located at a junction with U.S. Route 70 in Duncan. It initially heads northeast from this intersection but curves back towards the northwest. As it continues towards the northwest, the highway passes through the communities of Sheldon, Apache Grove and York. Duncan, Arizona
Duncan is a town in Greenlee County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the town was 696. In 2018 the estimated population was 789. Duncan is in the Gila River valley, west of the Arizona–New Mexico border. The town limits are on both sides of the Gila, but the primary portion of the town and the entire downtown area lie on the south side of the river. Duncan was founded in the mid 19th century, and the land was added to the United States as a part of the Mexican Cession. The town of Duncan has been destroyed twice by flood and once by fire. The town and area are primarily populated by ranchers and miners (especially from the Freeport-McMoran copper mines in southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico). Surrounding smaller towns such as Franklin and York in Arizona and Virden, New Mexico, use Duncan public works and public schools. Lordsburg is a city in and the county seat of Hidalgo County, New Mexico, United States. Hidalgo County includes the southern "bootheel" of New Mexico, along the Arizona border. Virden is a village in Hidalgo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 152 at the 2010 census. Growth and new construction is almost non-existent, but together with the Arizona sister-village of Duncan to the west, the consolidated area might experience minimal population and infrastructural growth in the next decade. History Known as Richmond prior to 1916, the area was originally owned by the New Mexico Mining Company, and was the location of a stamp mill for the silver ore mined in nearby Ralston. After the mine was closed, the site was sold in 1916 to Mormons who had left the Mormon Colonies in Chihuahua during the Mexican Revolution.
