Ariane De Rothschild Art Prize
The Ariane de Rothschild art prize, dedicated to contemporary art, was established in 2003. The exhibition is held in Lisbon or Brussels. The award focuses on painting, but with works based on traditional forms of painting, the competition accepts works whose theme, technique or genre may include photography, sculpture and video. A jury selected the artists based on the originality of their works, their artistic merit and other criteria deemed relevant by the jury. The price is different from other competitions in that it is a non-monetary prize in the form of an all expenses paid 6 months artists-in-resident scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Arts in London. Ariane De Rothschild
Baroness Ariane de Rothschild (née Langner; 14 November 1965) is a French banker, president of the board of the Edmond de Rothschild Group since April 2019. She is the first woman to run a Rothschild-branded financial institution. She was married to Benjamin de Rothschild from 23 January 1999 until his death on 15 January 2021. They have four daughters. Family Ariane de Rothschild was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. Her father was a senior executive at the international pharmaceutical company Hoechst. Until the age of eighteen, Ariane de Rothschild and her brother Philippe lived with their parents in Bangladesh, Colombia and the former Zaire (DRC). In January 1999, she married Benjamin de Rothschild, son of Edmond de Rothschild and heir of the Edmond de Rothschild Group. They have 4 daughters.
