Argideen Rangers GAA
Argideen Rangers is a Gaelic football and Hurling club based in Timoleague in County Cork, Republic of Ireland. In 2005 the club won the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship by beating Nemo Rangers in the final. The club plays in the Carbery GAA (South West Cork) division of Cork competitions. History Back in 1892, a club in the area known as St Molaga's contested the West Cork football final. Only three clubs participated in the championship. The club was strong in the early years of the association. This was due in no small way to the establishment of the railway network in the area and the work of John Burke, a railway employee based in Timoleague. It went into decline for a while but reemerged in the 1930s, reaching the west cork Junior 'B' hurling final in 1933. They went one better the following year, winning the 'A' title when Bandon was defeated. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Mark Foley (Cork Hurler)
Mark Foley (born 6 July 1967) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Cork senior hurling team. Born in Timoleague, County Cork, Foley first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Finbarr's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He joined the senior panel during the 1987 championship. Foley immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on one occasion, Foley never won a Railway Cup medal. At club level he is a one-time championship medallist with Carbery, while he also played with Arigdeen Rangers. Throughout his career Foley made 10 championship appearances. Cork Under-21 Football Championship
The Cork Under-21 Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition in County Cork, Ireland for players under the age of 21. Clubs affiliated to Cork board compete to win this championship. All eight of the divisions in Cork organize their own championship. The divisional winners compete against each other to decide the county title. Trophy The winning team is presented with the Pádraig A. Ó Murchú Cup. This cup commemorates Patrick Aloyius "Weeshie" Murphy of Bere Island, who served the GAA for many years, both as a player and an administrator. ''The Southern Star'' is a weekly regional newspaper based in Skibbereen, County Cork in Ireland and was established in 1889 as the ''Cork County Southern Star'', by brothers Florence and John O'Sullivan. One of its rival newspapers in the 19th century was ''The Skibbereen Eagle'', founded in 1857. It had become "famous by declaring it was 'keeping an eye on the Czar of Russia' over his expansionist designs on China". The Carbery Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bandon Co-op Carbery Junior A Football Championship) is an annual club Gaelic football competition organised by the Carbery Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by junior-ranked teams in West Cork, Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. Introduced in 1926 as the West Cork Junior Football Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament. The South West Junior A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the RCM Tarmacadam Carbery Junior A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Carbery Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1925 for junior hurling teams in the Barony of Carbery in County Cork, Ireland. The series of games begin in May, with the championship culminating with the final in September. The championship includes a knock-out stage and a "back door" for teams defeated in the first round.
