Cork Under-21 Football Championship
The Cork Under-21 Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition in County Cork, Ireland for players under the age of 21. Clubs affiliated to Cork board compete to win this championship. All eight of the divisions in Cork organize their own championship. The divisional winners compete against each other to decide the county title. Trophy The winning team is presented with the Pádraig A. Ó Murchú Cup. This cup commemorates Patrick Aloyius "Weeshie" Murphy of Bere Island, who served the GAA for many years, both as a player and an administrator. He played at full back for Cork on the 1945 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winning team, and also played club football for Beara and Lees. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Naomh Abán GAA
Naomh Abán GAA is a Gaelic football club based in the Gaeltacht village of Baile Bhuirne, County Cork, Ireland. It participates in games of the Muskerry division of the Cork GAA. The club has experienced senior grade football within Cork county for many years. It now participates in the Premier Intermediate grade. The club has contributed a number of players to the Cork Gaelic football team. These have included Anthony Lynch, Mícheál Cronin, Gerry Lucey, Gerry Lynch, Mick Scannell, Peadar Healy, and Coleman Twomey. Naomh Abán GAA fields underage boys and girls teams and also has an adult ladies team. The club does not field any hurling teams. Charleville GAA
Charleville GAA club is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in the town of Charleville, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu divisional board. History Charleville or Rathluirc GAA club was founded in 1888, and was drawn against Ballyhea in the championship that year. In 1914 the club had its first success winning the county Middle Grade ( Intermediate) hurling championship. In the early 1930s, after experiencing some lean years, the club decided to run street leagues for the whole parish initially at adult level and later at minor level. These games were often fiercely contested as the pride of a particular part of the town was at stake. In 1937 a separate club named Seán Clarach was set up to oversee the minor age group. Dohenys is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, fielding Gaelic football and Hurling teams in the town of Dunmanway, County Cork, Ireland. It won its only Cork Senior Club Football Championship in 1897. Other titles won include 2 Cork Intermediate Football Championships in 1972 and 1995, and 3 Cork Junior Football Championships in 1935, 1966, and 1993. Erin's Own GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Glounthaune in east County Cork, Ireland. The club is made up of players from Little Island, Knockraha, Brooklodge and Glounthaune areas of the parish. Newmarket GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling club in Newmarket, County Cork, Ireland which is part of the parish of Newmarket, Taur. Newmarkets football team competes in the Cork Senior A Football Championship and their hurling team competes in the Duhallow Junior A Hurling Championship. History The Gaelic Athletic Association has been part of life in Newmarket since the closing years of the 19th century.
