Arcos De Canasí
Arcos de Canasí Bacunayagya is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte, in Mayabeque Province. Until 2011, it was part of the former La Habana Province. History The town was founded in 1738 at the mouths of the ''Rio Canasi''. Due to frequent flooding, the town was moved to higher ground in 1808, on the actual location. It was its own municipality (administering an area of ) of the Matanzas Province until 1976, when its territories were re-distributed to the Santa Cruz del Norte municipality of the La Habana Province. With the split of the La Habana Province in 2010, this municipality belongs currently to Mayabeque Province. Economy The town's economy is mainly agriculture. Farmers offering cheese and fruit on the side of the Via Blanca highway are an everyday sight. Intense oil exploitation is active on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean just north of the town. Provinces Of Cuba
Administratively, Cuba is divided into 15 provinces and one special municipality (the Isla de la Juventud). The last modification was approved in August 2010 (by the Cuban National Assembly), splitting Havana province into two new provinces: Artemisa (which incorporates the three eastern municipalities of the neighbour Pinar del Río) and Mayabeque. Mayabeque Province
Mayabeque Province is one of two new provinces created from the former La Habana Province, whose creation was approved by the Cuban National Assembly on August 1, 2010, the other being Artemisa Province. The new provinces came in to existence on January 1, 2011. Overview Mayabeque is made up of the 11 eastern municipalities of the former La Habana province, with the capital in San José de las Lajas. Mayabeque Province is named after the Mayabeque River (the largest in this territory) as well as the south shore of Mayabeque beach, the place believed to be the original location of Havana village (San Cristóbal de La Habana) that was founded in 1514. Santa Cruz Del Norte
Santa Cruz del Norte is a town and municipality in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. Before 2011 it was part of La Habana Province. It is located on the north shore, between the cities of Havana and Matanzas, at the mouth of the Santa Cruz River. Overview The town was founded in 1800, being a fishing community at that time, and achieved municipality status in 1931. This is the main home of the Havana Club rum distillery; all dark varieties being produced in Santa Cruz del Norte. The distillery can be visited as part of a tour. Other industries in the municipality include power generation, oil extraction and fishing. La Habana Province
La Habana Province , formerly known as Ciudad de La Habana Province, is a province of Cuba that includes the territory of the city of Havana, the Republic's capital. Between 1878 and 2010, the name referred to another province that covered a much larger area, which in 2010 was subdivided into the present-day provinces of Artemisa (which also took over three municipalities from Pinar del Río) and Mayabeque. Matanzas Province
Matanzas () is one of the provinces of Cuba. Major towns in the province include Cárdenas, Colón, Jovellanos and the capital of the same name, Matanzas. The resort town of Varadero is also located in this province. Agriculture
Agriculture or farming is the practice of cultivating plants and livestock. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that enabled people to live in cities. Petroleum, also known as crude oil, or simply oil, is a naturally occurring yellowish-black liquid mixture of mainly hydrocarbons, and is found in geological formations.
