Archibald Wickstead
Archibald Wickstead (6 November 1884 – 1 February 1966) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1911 and 1912. Wickstead was born at Meltham Mills, Yorkshire. He debuted against Yorkshire in May 1911 with the team's highest score of 24 in the first innings until he was out to England Test bowler Schofield Haigh. He was absent hurt in the second innings, and Derbyshire went to an innings defeat. He was a regular starter in the upper-middle order in his debut season and made 68 against Northamptonshire and 65 against Essex. His one over of bowling was against Lancashire. In 1912 he played against the South Africans and played one County match against Warwickshire. He made little impression in either match. Wickstead was a left-handed batsman and played 26 innings in 14 matches with an average of 16.73 and a top score of 68. He bowled one over without taking a wicket. Meltham
Meltham is a town and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, England. It lies in the Holme Valley, below Wessenden Moor, four and a half miles south-west of Huddersfield on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It had a population of 8,089 at the 2001 census, which was estimated to have increased to 8,600 by 2005. The population assessed at the 2011 Census was 8,534. It has 12 elected council members who meet up around every 6 weeks. History The valley has been inhabited since pre-historic times and there are two Iron Age sites overlooking the town. In 1086, Meltham was recorded in the Domesday Book as a village in the hundred of Agbrigg and the county of Yorkshire although in 1086 the village had been laid waste. The town used to have a station on the Meltham branch line, which ran from Lockwood outside of Huddersfield. Lancashire County Cricket Club represents the historic county of Lancashire in English cricket. The club has held first-class status since it was founded in 1864. Schofield Haigh
Schofield Haigh (19 March 1871 – 27 February 1921) was a Yorkshire and England cricketer. He played for eighteen seasons for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, for England from the 1898/99 tour to 1912, and was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1901. Life and career Born in Berry Brow, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, Haigh played club cricket for Keighley Cricket Club, and made his debut for Yorkshire in 1895, playing for the Tykes until 1913. He played sporadically for England from 1898/99 to 1912, and was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year. He bowled right-hand medium pace, but could vary it with slower or faster deliveries, and when the pitch helped him he made the ball spin back from the off.
