Archery At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Individual
The women's individual archery event at the 2008 Summer Olympics was part of the archery programme. It took place at the Olympic Green Archery Field. Ranking Round was on 9 August 2008. First and second elimination rounds took place on 12 August, and eights, quarterfinal, semifinals and medals matches were on 14 August. All archery was done at a range of 70 metres, with targets 1.22 metres in diameter. Park Sung-hyun tried to defend her Olympic Gold Medal won in Athens, along with British Alison Williamson, winner of the bronze medal in 2004. 64 archers from 37 countries qualified for the event at the Beijing Olympics. The 44th Outdoor Archery World championship, held in Leipzig, Germany, plus 5 continental qualification tournaments and a Final World Qualification Tournament selected 61 slots for the event, along with 3 Tripartite Commission Invitations. The Olympic Green Archery Field () was one of nine temporary venues for the 2008 Summer Olympics. It hosted the archery events. Yuan Shu Chi
Yuan Shu-chi (; born 9 November 1984 in Nantou County) is an athlete from the Republic of China. She competes in archery. 2004 Summer Olympics Yuan represented the Republic of China (as Chinese Taipei) at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She was placed 6th in the women's individual ranking round, with a 72-arrow score of 658. In the first elimination round, she faced 59th-ranked Kateryna Palekha of Ukraine. Yuan defeated Palekha 162–158 in the 18-arrow match to advance to the round of 32. In that round, she faced 27th-ranked Polish archer Małgorzata Sobieraj, defeating her 158–149. Yuan then defeated 43rd-ranked Reena Kumari of India 166–148, advancing to the quarterfinals. Kwon Un Sil
Kwon Un-sil (born September 17, 1983 in Hamhung, South Hamgyong) is an athlete from North Korea who competes in archery. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Kwon finished her ranking round with a total of 656 points. This gave her the 5th seed for the final competition bracket in which she faced Najmeh Abtin in the first round, beating the archer from Iran with 106–96. In the second round she was too strong for Pranitha Vardhineni with 106-99 and via Aida Román (105-100) she achieved her place in the quarter final. There she eliminated another Mexican, Mariana Avitia with 105-99 to go on to the semi final. In the semi final Kwon was unable to beat first seed Park Sung-hyun who won the match 109–106. Khatuna Narimanidze ( ka, ხათუნა ნარიმანიძე; born 2 February 1974) is an athlete from Georgia. She competes in archery. 2004 Summer Olympics Narimanidze represented Georgia at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 41st in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 620. In the first round of elimination, she faced 24th-ranked Almudena Gallardo of Spain. Kim Soo-Nyung
Kim Soo-nyung (born April 5, 1971 in Chungcheongbuk-do) is a former member of the South Korean Olympic archery team in 1988, 1992, and 2000. She has earned a total of four gold medals at the Olympics, one for the individual event in 1988 and three for the team event in 1988, 1992 and 2000. She won a further silver medal in 1992 and a bronze in 2000, both for the individual events. She retired after the 1992 Olympics to marry and raise two children, resuming her training in 1999, in the lead up to the 2000 Summer Olympics. She competed at the 1986 Asian Games winning a gold medal in the team event and a bronze in the individual. She also won two consecutive individual and team world championships in 1989 and 1991. Yun Ok-hee (Korean: 윤옥희, Hanja: 尹玉姬, ; born 1 March 1985) is a South Korean archer, who won the gold medal in the team and a silver in the individual competition at the 2006 Asian Games and is a former world number one. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Yun finished her ranking round with a total of 667 points, six points behind ranking leader Park Sung-hyun. This gave her the second seed for the final competition bracket in which she faced Albina Kamaltdinova in the first round, beating the archer from Tajikistan 109-102. In the second round, Yun was too strong for Marie-Pier Beaudet (114-107) and via Chen Ling (113-103) in the third round she advanced to the quarter finals.
