Arcadia High School (Louisiana)
Arcadia High School is a public 6-12 school in Arcadia, Louisiana, United States. It is a part of Bienville Parish School Board. As of the 2015–2016 school year, the school had 296 students, with 95% of them being classified as low income. History Professor John H. Davidson became the principal on July 28, 1903. He originated from Junction City, Louisiana. On September 3, 1907, the school had 300 students. In 1922, the voters of Arcadia passed a $100,000 bond to build another school building on a 76%-22% basis. The school auditorium and gymnasium building was destroyed by a fire in October 1973; the junior high school building was salvaged by firefighters and the senior high school did not get damaged. The athletic trophies dating from 1947 were destroyed. A bond for establishing a new school complex for Arcadia High was scheduled for January 15, 1974. Arcadia is a town in, and the parish seat of, Bienville Parish in northern Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,919 at the 2010 census. Arcadia has the highest elevation of any incorporated municipality in Louisiana. Arcadia's name commemorates the Ancient Greek region of Arcadia. History In 1934, bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde were killed near Arcadia in a shootout. Their bodies were brought for embalming to a furniture store in Arcadia which also served as a funeral parlor. Enormous crowds of onlookers descended upon the city when news of the pair's deaths there became public. Bienville Parish School Board (BPSB) is a school district headquartered in Arcadia, Louisiana, United States. The district serves Bienville Parish. In 2012 the superintendent replaced the principals of five of the district's eight schools after encountering poor test scores. The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) is the agency that regulates and promotes the interscholastic athletic competitions of all high schools in the state of Louisiana. Organization LHSAA was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in October 1920. The LHSAA's main office was in Hammond from 1953 until 1972, when it returned to Baton Rouge. Rush Wimberly
Joseph Rush Wimberly, I (December 30, 1873 – March 11, 1943), was at the turn of the 20th century successively a member of both houses of the Louisiana State Legislature from Arcadia, the seat of Bienville Parish in North Louisiana. He served two terms in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1900 to 1908. and a single term in the Louisiana State Senate from 1908 to 1912, representing Bienville and neighboring Claiborne parishes. Wimberly served on the Education committees of both houses during his 12-year tenure. Wimberly was the youngest of eleven children of the former Francis Nix and John L.
