History According to Titus Livius, the Samnites were desperately short of men, and thus called a general muster to Aquilonia, which all men of Samnium were required to answer. There, they took strict religious oaths to their country, and were then forced to join the army upon an altar to the gods. If they refused, they were slain on the spot and their bodies left in a pile as a reminder to all others what would happen if they refused. 	Lacedonia Lacedonia ( Irpinian: ) is a ''comune'' in the province of Avellino, Campania region, southern Italy, overlooking the Osento River which flows into the Lago di San Pietro (Lake of Saint Peter), an artificial lake. The town is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia. History Lacedonia was first called Akudunniad by the Osci and then Erdonea. 	Aquilonia, Campania Aquilonia is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Avellino, part of the Campania region of southern Italy. It is situated in mountainous terrain in the eastern part of the province, at an elevation of . History The Lombards called the town Carbonara or Carunar, supposedly because a major local occupation was charcoal making. In 1861, after the unification of Italy, the town was renamed ''Aquilonia'' based on a 16th-century assumption that this was the site of the Battle of Aquilonia between the Rome and the Samnites. On 23 July 1930 a major earthquake destroyed the town, and it was rebuilt at a higher location nearby.
