Aquidauana
Aquidauana is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It takes its name from the river with which the name is shared. The first European settlers were imperial soldiers who arrived during the Paraguayan War and were then settled on the lands they had occupied, between the Rivers Aquidauana and Negro, after the cessation of hostilities. Aquidauana was founded on 15 August 1892 by a local committee including several leading colonels and farmers. The first teacher at the city's first school, opened in 1894, was a man called Teodoro Rondon. Aquidauana gained municipal status in 1918. Aquidauanense Futebol Clube, commonly known as Aquidauanense, is a Brazilian football team based in Aquidauana, Mato Grosso do Sul state. The club was formerly known as Escolinha de Futebol Aquidauanense. Aquidauanense is currently ranked fourth among Mato Grosso do Sul teams in CBF's national club ranking, at 195th place overall. Mato Grosso do Sul () is one of the Midwestern states of Brazil. Neighboring Brazilian states are (from north clockwise) Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Paraná. Paraguayan War
The Paraguayan War, also known as the War of the Triple Alliance, was a South American war that lasted from 1864 to 1870. It was fought between Paraguay and the Triple Alliance of Argentina, the Empire of Brazil, and Uruguay. It was the deadliest and bloodiest inter-state war in Latin American history. Paraguay sustained large casualties, but the approximate numbers are disputed. Paraguay was forced to cede disputed territory to Argentina and Brazil. The war began in late 1864, as a result of a conflict between Paraguay and Brazil caused by the Uruguayan War.
