Aquarius (EP)
''Aquarius'' is an EP by Boards of Canada, released on 5 January 1998. It is one of the shortest releases by Boards of Canada, barely breaking the 13-minute mark. The track "Chinook" is a longer version of one that appeared on ''Boc Maxima'', a publicly unreleased predecessor to ''Music Has the Right to Children''. "Aquarius" was the only single produced for the record. Composition The track contains a sample of "Aquarius" by Ren Woods as featured in the film version of ''Hair''. The version of "Aquarius" on this EP is a different version than the one featured on ''Music Has the Right to Children''. ''A Century of Song'' is a 6-CD box set by La Musique Populaire. As the title suggests, ''A Century of Song'' is a chronological overview of songs from the 20th century. Recorded from 1999 to 2003, the songs were originally available for download from their website Eschewing the canonical choices that would define such a chronology, LMP recorded songs ranging from the Tin Pan Alley of the turn of the century, to rap, alternative rock and dance music at the century. As such, ''A Century of Songs'' covers a multitude of genres, including plunderphonics, krautrock, happy hardcore and country. La Musique Populaire
La Musique Populaire is an American indie pop band, made of up members Ryan Bassler and Eric Haugen. The band was originally a quartet, Lorenzo Music in 1992, which grew into a 22 member pop orchestra, called the ''Lorenzo Music Philharmonic''. Faced with legal action from the actor of the same name, the name changed it to La Musique Populaire before the release of their debut EP, ''Auntie Canada'' in 1996. As part of the American indie pop scene of the 1990s, they are defined by their eclectic sound, like contemporaries Ween and The Magnetic Fields. Hair (film)
''Hair'' is a 1979 American musical anti-war comedy-drama film based on the 1968 Broadway musical '' Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical''. Set against the backdrop of the hippie counterculture of the Vietnam era, the film focuses on a Vietnam War draftee who meets and befriends a "tribe" of hippies while en route to the army induction center. The hippies and their leader introduce him to marijuana, LSD and their environment of unorthodox relationships and draft evasion. Ren Woods
Renn Woods (born Ren Woods; January 1, 1958) is an American film, television and stage actress, vocalist and songwriter. She is best known for her role as Fanta in ''Roots'', and also for her performance of Aquarius in the film version of ''Hair'' (1979). Woods was born in Chicago and raised in Portland, Oregon, where she attracted attention as part of Three Little Souls, a local musical trio she formed at age ten. The group subsequently became known as Sunday's Child, and toured internationally through Wood's adolescent years, appearing on television with such acts as Bob Hope. In adulthood, Woods transitioned into acting, starring as Fanta in ''Roots'' (1977), and the Aquarius soloist in ''Hair'' (1979). She also had a supporting role in the comedy ''The Jerk'' (1979). She has also appeared onstage as Dorothy in the first national touring production of ''The Wiz'', and as The Moon in a critically acclaimed stage production of ''Caroline, or Change''. ''Boc Maxima'' is a limited-release studio album self-released by Boards of Canada on cassette in 1996 via their label Music70. The album preceded their more public releases on Skam and Warp. Many of its tracks were reused on their early EPs and 1998 debut LP ''Music Has the Right to Children''. It was broadcast in full on the radio program ''Disengage'' in 2002, but has never been officially re-released. Background The physical cassette production of the album was limited to 50 copies world-wide, which were handed out to friends and family. Hexagon Sun is an artistic collective based in the Pentland Hills, Scotland. The confirmed members are Mike Sandison, Marcus Eoin, Peter Iain Campbell (a.k.a. "PIC"), Simon Goderich (a.k.a. "goderich"), Mark David Garrett (a.k.a. "mdg"), Rachel Stewart, Alan Mackenzie, and Andrew Wilson. Skam Records
Skam Records is an independent electronic music record label based in Manchester, England, founded by Andy Maddocks around 1990. Skam also runs a smaller sub-label called 33. History Skam's first 12-inch single is rumored to have never been officially released, only distributed as a promo. This was a self-titled debut from Lego Feet (Sean Booth and Rob Brown, now known to be the duo Autechre); approximately 100 to 150 copies are believed to exist. The label followed with two 12" records from a project known as Gescom, whose members vary between each release. It is "an open secret that they're somehow associated with" Autechre.
