Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network
The Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network is an employer-led body sponsored by the Skills Funding Agency in England. Its remit is to encourage more employers to become involved in apprenticeships in England. The Network is the successor body to the Apprenticeship Task Force established by the Chancellor of the Exchequer. David Meller, of the Meller Group, was Chair from 2014 - 2018 followed by Jason Holt CBE of the Holts Group of Companies from 2018 to 2022. The previous Chairman was Sir Roy Gardner, Chairman of Compass Group Plc. Members include ex-apprentice Mike Turner CBE Chairman of Babcock International and companies as diverse as Asda, British Gas, BT and Toyota. The Network has presented Honorary Apprenticeship Awards to prominent people who have served an Apprenticeship and/or have had significant involvement in work based learning or achieved success via social enterprise or their profession. Brian Turner (chef)
Brian James Turner (born 7 May 1946) is a British chef, writer and TV personality based in London. He appeared as a cook on BBC2's ''Ready Steady Cook'' from 1994, has appeared on numerous occasions on ''Saturday Kitchen'' and has also presented various other cookery programmes. Career Turner was born in Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire. During his early career, his mentor was the food writer and broadcaster Michael Smith. Turner trained at various hotels and restaurants, including Simpson's in the Strand and the Savoy Grill, both under Richard Shepherd. Turner then went to Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne, returning to Britain to work at Claridge's and then in 1971 the Capital Hotel where Turner and Richard Shepherd earned a Michelin star. Education in England is overseen by the United Kingdom's Department for Education. Local government authorities are responsible for implementing policy for public education and state-funded schools at a local level. National Apprenticeship Service
The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), part of the Education and Skills Funding Agency, is a government agency that coordinates apprenticeships in England, enabling young people to enter the skilled trades. History At the beginning of February 2008 the Labour Government published a document called ''Strategy for the Future of Apprenticeships in England''. It introduced a quango, the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). The National Skills Director of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) was to be in charge of the NAS. The LSC at the time had had most of its funding farmed out to local authorities. The NAS was to be part of the LSC, as outlined in the government's 2008 document on apprenticeships.
